My sons room is done so that makes the grand total of rooms in the house done up to 2.My kids are my priority so it makes sense that their rooms were tackled first.Wayland's room was literally a piece by piece job. When we first moved in his room was an ugly ashy blue,I still need to touch up a few spots where its peaked through the sandy color I've thrown over it but basically its done.Done enough to show off anyway.
The dresser I found at one of the thrift stores here a few months ago.The lamps I'd picked up at the antique mall here back in 2006 when I'd lived up here very briefly.I'd gotten them for a whopping $10.00!They've traveled with me all over the statea and its funny that 6 years later they're back in the town I originally purchased them in.
This Lone Ranger has seen better days but I couldn't pass him up when I spotted him at a yard sale when I was out in California last year caretaking for a family member.
Like a lot of the homes in my area you have the slanted ceiling which is kind of a pain to work with, especially when they rooms aren't big to begin with (and you insist that your children have FULL beds and not twins cause twin bedding is garbage in my opinion) but you work with what you got.The kids have their play room down stairs and each have enough space to play in their bedrooms when they're requiring their own quiet time.
Here is a close up shot of the curtains.I wasn't able to afford vintage cowboy barkcloth curtains but I did get these light cotton vintage ones for a steal on ebay.
I'm sure of you collect old magazines.Life magazine are great for art,the ads are fantastic and fit well in an 11x8 frame.I had an issue that was pretty brittle to the touch but had an ad for the movie Annie Get Your Gun (1950) that I cut out to use in his room.
This rodeo souvenir from 1941 is in perfect condition,I picked it up in an Indy flea market for $3.00!
The back pillows my mom made, they're a tooled leather look with faux cow print on the other side. The little owl pillows were a gift from my friend Kara when I found out I was pregnant with Wayland.
I keep some of his books in this vintage magazine rack.He doesn't get too many books in his room due to him have a secret stash of pens somewhere that he likes to doodle in so too many books left in the privacy of his room meet an untimely death.Boys, they're destructive.
His light switch cover I purchased from Hobby Horse Designs on etsy.
Vintage toy box
Speaking of little boys being destructive...This rocker I got in mint condition. One day Wayland is happily rocking in it and then leans over the arm and bites it!!Tore the vinyl so now its taped.FYI to my fellow vintage lovers,if you're doing vintage with your kids (especially boys) don't spend too much on any one piece cause you'll be extra sad when it gets a boo boo.
The chair was only $25.00 so I wasn't completely outraged but it still hurt. The vintage Herman Munster doll I picked up when I was still in Oceanside,CA at the consignment warehouse on coast highway.I love that place,it always has new things coming in so to any San Diego readers stop by if you're ever in the area cause it always has good things!
The shadowbox was another Indy flea market steal, the horse was my mothers as a child, and yes for fellow western nerds that is a signed photo of Pat Conway from Tombstone Territory.
Kitschy $1.00 thrift store art is sometimes the best art.
and last but not least is his Vogue hamper.I had this long before he was born because hi my name is Desiree and I'm a vintage hamper hoarder but yeah to finally having a use for it!

Thrift Finds...
I had ordered a couch online but due to weird zoning rules the company was unable to deliver it.Apparently there is a weight limit of nothing bigger than a lumber truck being allowed on my road and surrounding roads. The company delivers in a semi so I'll take it as divine intervention. The vintage gods REALLY didn't want be to have a new "vintage style" couch, they must be saving an awesome real deal for me out there.
Now that I'll HAVE to shop locally for a vintage couch I thought today would be a good day to start. No luck in that department on this trip but I did at the second thrift I went find this chair(fist was a TOTAL bust in all departments). It is orange and stamped July 24th,1962 on the bottom.Orange doesn't work with the idea for the color scheme I've been hunting for but for $4.00 I couldn't bring myself to just leave it there!Even if I can't use it in my living room it can have a good home in my office.
The third (and sadly last place my kids and dear husband had the patience for) scored me this fantastic dress for the shop!I need to give it a clean up before it hits the shop.
Another fun piece I also picked up for the shop was this kitschy drink set!I thought it would look amazing on someones tiki bar!The straw bottle is open on the bottom and slips over the alcoholic beverage of your choice and the cups are pretty much like much more decorative cozies.I know what I am about to say may shock some readers but...I don't like tiki *ducks and covers*.I mean I can definitely admire it but as far as collecting it for my personal collection not so much, but I can say this would look awesome on a tiki bar none the less.
I figure if I was lucky enough to score a 1961 Kroehler sectional once for $35.00 I can find another great couch again and hopefully SOON.Oh and vintage gods if you could throw my way an art deco bedroom set so I can complete my bedroom that would also be greatly appreciated.

Seeing Red and Fashion Don'ts....
I type this with slight roots peeking through so clearly I have lagged a bit since my last blog post but yes,I finally got around to dying my hair red.I love it.I missed it.Though there is plenty of snow still on the ground my area has approached the 50's in temps and it feels nice to wear dresses again without a coat and thick socks !
Inside lighting makes my hair a little purple looking so I may go with a brighter red than what I was able to find at the store.
I was happy to bust out a pair of deadstock stockings from their box and ballet flats instead of my normal rain boots I've had to wear forever (forever in this case being grossly exaggerated and in reality only since November). My daughter walked in on me fastening my stocking to my garter and declared it amazing and that she wanted one when she got older. Its nice that she appreciates the stocking with the garter instead of going with modern convenience of not having to wear a garter with stockings made now a days since that have that elastic fit at the thigh.
We left the house and ran some errands and make a thrift run.I'm thankful the Goodwill in my area is open on Sundays and that I have good luck there.99% of Goodwill's I've gone to are horrible.I will admit here and now that I committed one of my top 10 fashion don'ts.I left the house with chipped polish.I can't even begin to stress how much I hate this.I wore glitter nail and wowza!I completely spaced on how hard it is to remove! What you're seeing now isn't so much "chipped" but me being exhausted from trying to scrub them off and after a small mountain of polish remover soaked cotton balls only getting these results.
My friend suggested this blog post on how to remove glitter polish so I'll be trying this tonight once the kiddies go to sleep!
