Here in the states many look at memorial day as 3 day weekend,a reason to barbecue and drink beers. Now I'm not knocking any of that but I do hope as I've heard people boast of their holiday parties they'll be attending that they'll also be giving nod to those that have served.
Though it is looked at as a time to honor those that have served and died I thought I'd share with you photos of my gramps in uniform who I am still so fortunate to have with me.He is a retired Sergeant Major in his 90's and has fought 7 terms of war from WWII through Vietnam.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe remains of the holiday weekend.I want to express my gratitude to the men and women that have served and continue to serve this country. Also thank you to your families for their bravery in holding down the home front and staying strong when you're away from them. Also in their ability to put on a smile knowing in times of war there is a chance you may not return to them.I salute you all.

Happy Birthday Wishes For Those Beyond the Grave...
"In art, religion, and politics the respect must be mutual, no matter how violent the disagreement." -Vincent Price
For as long as I can remember I have loved Vincent Price. His voice is mesmerizing and his sense of humor to die for.So though he may not be of this world anymore I thought I'd give a quick note say Happy Birthday Mr.Price because you'll always live on in my heart.

Ranch,Not Just a Condiment...
My favorite style of home is the Craftsman,Cape Cod,Victorian and last but not least Ranch Style!Being in Southern California you don't get a lot of REALLY old homes like you do in the Midwest and back East. That is one of the things I miss and am eager to see again when I move back.
A lot of the homes in my hometown are modern or 70's that have been added on to.Today when I took the kids for a walk the street a few blocks over had nothing but ranch style homes that I thought I'd share you you.I wanted to stay somewhat respectful of these peoples privacy so I didn't shoot the whole house but just bits of the homes on the street.Hope you enjoy!

2 of My Favorite Things...
I have a lot of things I love.Up there on the list would be bakelite and shoes and this post will show off both. Now I've been back in California for almost a year. Its been hard and most of the time frustrating.Care taking for a family member that you don't really get along with isn't exactly smooth sailing to say the least. But when I leave I can at least say it wasn't a total loss because I'd like to share all the bakelite bangles I've found since I've been here!
And a little late but better late than never here is my Mother's Day gift from the hubs.I love heels but also to be practical over the fact that I have to chase around to young kids flats are also a personal fav.Stylish flats are always a plus.I love that they have these ribbon laces but also came with skinny laces too.

Skirts From France and Battle of the Bangs
What is new since last week?If you don't follow me on Facebook or Twitter than you're just now finding out that my bangs are back.I'm mostly glad too but there is of course a smidge of remorse over not being able to stick with it,but C'est la vie.
I've also been bad about outfit posts so I thought I'd get one in before I get too rusty.Today I wore the vintage skirt I picked up yesterday while thrifting. There is a cool little thrift shop in town that separates the vintage from the normal donated clothes but still keeps MOST things thrift shop reasonable, others sadly not so much. This skirt was made in Paris,France which automatically makes it cooler to me for some reason. And the fact that I talked the guy down from $20.00 to $12.00 also helps.
I scored my 60's blouse years ago off ebay.I was a little disappointed in my blouse department this morning.I really need to have a better variety.I think a navy nylon blouse would be perfect with the skirt.*Note to self keep eyes open for blouses.I have a ton of skirts but rarely anything to pair them with most of them time, tsk, tsk!Didn't get a close up but there are my awesome $1.00 bakelite hoop earrings.
A close up of the fabric.
Ah,yes. My tried and true ballet flats.I should have thrown these away a long time ago but I can't bring myself to do it yet.

Vintage 101 Score!
Sorry,I have every intention of getting this post down the day after my last but you know..that thing called life gets in the way sometimes.Well anyway they aren't the greatest photos and I feel bad that they aren't displayed in all their glory (its a little crowded here while I'm care-taking and oh how I miss my pretty things packed away) BUT when we do move these lovelies will be going into my daughters room.
Back in November I picked up this dresser for $15.00!Due to the lighting it looks much more yellowed than it is,oh natural light you are so much better...
While I was in Vintage 101 I noticed the matching night stands!I didn't have enough for them but they guy cut me a deal,I was so happy!I only pictured one because I've already moved the other into the garage and I was too lazy to fish it out.Lazy blogger I know. But once we do get into our own home again I promise a beautiful vintage galore photo shoot of the new place!
I noticed for some reason a few of the photos I took of Vintage 101 didn't show on my last post so here are the ones that decided to go MIA.

Vintage 101...
Today was a great day.My mom stopped by and we loaded up the kids to see the Carlsbad flower fields. That was short lived when we found out it was $10.00...flowers are cool and all but not $10.00 to get in the gate cool, sorry flowers.
A trip to the shoe store for the kids which ended in 2 pairs of shoes for girl child and none for boy child as he became restless and "stereo-typical toddler no one likes in public" type so to the car we went.I told him as we walked back to the car he was only hurting himself here as he now got no new shoes...I don't think it had the same meaning to it as when I tell my girl that.
A quick run to the bike shop to FINALLY get a tire for my stroller and as Wayland found his happy place again my mom suggested staying in the car and letting Heidi and I wonder into a little shop called Vintage 101.
I've been in there a few times before and it doesn't disappoint. The guy that is always there is extremely friendly and helpful. The store has a little bit of everything.Clothes, furniture, knick knacks, home decor and housewares.Mostly its 1960s and 1970s but it does have earlier decades.I have a soft spot for kitsch so I can appreciate all aspects.
Here are some snaps of the shop.Sorry for the small photos,I'm having issue with my photo bucket not letting me resize my photos without distorting them and blah, blah more technical stuff you really don't care about.
If you should find yourself in North County San Diego take a minute to check it out.Oh and did I find anything that I couldn't leave without? You bet,but you'll have to stay tuned until tomorrow when I can get better photos.

Thrift Scores...
I ended up hitting 4 different shops yesterday and found a little something at each.Mostly for ME and not so much the shop but that's ok.Those days happen and honestly better than finding nothing at all, right?!
These obviously aren't vintage but they were brand new AND only $2.00!My closet was lacking blue shoes.Sure I have navy but these electric blue bad boys needed to come home with me.Wedges are my friend.
When I spotted this darling knit cap I hoped it was for adults.Sadly for me it was child size, fortunately for my daughter it fits just right.I freaking LOVE these knit hats though!Beats a beanie any day in cold weather.
I'm a huge fan of vintage costume jewelry. This Trifari necklace will be hitting the shop sometime this week.
This squaresville plastic bangle will be too!
Now because I love vintage costume jewelry that also means I have a hard time parting with it sometimes. For example this moon shaped lucite confetti bracelet with rhinestone starts in copper will NOT be hitting the shop but hanging out with me instead.
And last I scored a ton of drinking glasses. The little ones on the left I found 6 of,they're from Libbey. The taller ones on the right I found 7 of and are from Anchor. All need a good bath in some white vinegar to remove the hard water build up they have on them.

Trends That Need to Come Back...
The thing about fashion is its all a cycle.Things come back, fall out of fashion, come back again with a twist and so on and so forth. When I first started dressing in vintage in Jr. High I can understand why my mom use to cringe when I started wearing her friends old bell bottoms that she had handed down to me.I feel the same cringe seeing late 80's early 90's fashions come back into style.
This list had the potential to get really long but I narrowed it down to 3 easy to incorporate pieces I'd like to see come back in style.
The first is for the fellas and its very easy.Men have the simplest time pulling off dapper and yet are most prone to failing miserably at it.Sorry but I can't think of anything less attractive than baseball caps, baggy jeans,Tap Out clothing and the likes.Oh and SERIOUSLY what is up with those tattooed long sleeved mesh nylon shirts?!?Don't fake it.If you don't have tattoos I could care less but if you're walking around with one of those shirts that at first glance makes me think you're fully sleeved you look a fool.
For the gents I'd like to suggest the return of the pocket watch! These I found in a field.Random find and full of mystery!
Next on the list is sweat clips...or sweater guards, whichever you prefer. These are 2 of my favorites from my personal collection.
Last but not least ladies is GLOVES!Trust me the YOUNGER you fall in love with them and stick with them the BETTER!I am but a mere 29 and trust me I can see the aging process on my hands already. It makes me wish I had been stricter about wearing gloves more often in my youth, sunblock isn't enough sometimes.(these are currently for sale in my Etsy shop)
Now I am curious what are some fashions YOU'D like to see come back and/or go away and NEVER come back?
