My morning stroll with the kids yesterday proved to be a tad more worth it than just the usual fresh air, sunshine and exercise reasons. One of the houses a block up had a bunch of junk on the curb marked "free".In all honesty it should have just been put out with the trash a few days earlier (no one wants a vacuum held together by duct tape I think its safe to say).
In a cardboard box I did notice a life magazine from September 29th,1961!It was the ONLY thing worth rescuing and I did just that!Definitely one of my "newer" vintage Life magazines but I do adore the early 60's and I've been enjoying all the episodes of Mad Men I've missed on Netflix on demand so it seemed a fitting era to find.
I get a lot of inspiration from old magazines. It appeals to my sense of taste. It makes me cry often that I can't order the things they're advertising anymore. As a history nerd watching how mankind tends to repeat mistakes amuses me.Now this one isn't in the best of condition so I understood why they were tossing it but a tattered magazine doesn't stop me from wanting it.My nice ones I keep displayed...well,honestly that's a lie I haven't displayed any for a few years as I have small children who don't understand "gently" 100%.But the old ones, tattered, brittle and/or musty I cut apart for scrapbooking and to use on my orders.
It had one of my favorite style icons Jackie O
here you go ladies,a peak into the past of what was the new fashion "ins" for 1961!
an ad for MaidenForm
Makeup ad declaring the matte look is in.I concur.Face makeup should either be matte or natural.I don't get the shimmery, dewy sparkle look.Your face just looks like it needs some powder stat!
I've said it before and I'll say it again:I'm a sucker for packaging! How cute did Friskies labels use to be!!??
And I don't care if its considered "dated" I've always been a fan of the matching lips and fingertips rule. =)
Awww the cat on that ad looks JUST like my roommate's cat!
