Sam I am...

I have a new addition to the family! My husband came home from playing pool last night with a black lab.One of the fellas he plays with lives out in the country. At around 3am the previous night a car pulled up to his house and abandoned 2 dogs in his yard.Another friend took the smaller one and we took the lab who is now known as Sam.Meet Sam,he knows commands, listens fairly well, slobbers an unattractive amount and besides some scarring on his nose and elbows, and being underweight appears to be in good health.

He is also totally in love with my husband!

He also hates sitting still long enough for me to take any photos of him.

In typical lab fashion he enjoys fetching things.I need to get him some toys but for now this stick is his favorite thing.

The kids love him.My son is less than thrilled about being licked by Sam though. But how about my other fur babies you may wonder?Ollie is THRILLED.Obnoxiously thrilled. He's all over Sam which has made Sam nervous but they get along.I just have to tell Ollie to back off sometimes.Like in this photo, you can see Ollie's eyes PLEADING with me to please, please, pretty please let him be annoying and jump all over Sam again.

Lug on the other hand for being a rescue dog himself is not very accepting of another rescue in the home.To say he is indignant would be an understatement.Stink eyes have been given to me and my husband and groans and sighs are tossed in Sam's direction. He'll warm up.I'm just trying to give him extra loves so he sees its a new addition, not a replacement.

I can't understand how a person can just abandon an animal like that.Due to Sam being malnourished I wonder if they couldn't afford to keep him?I can only speculate but it doesn't excuse the behavior. What matters now though is that Sam is safe and has a home.A forever home.

  1. Oh my gosh, he's SO cute! And as for the other pups - that's what I love about dogs. They just learn to deal. With cats, they don't. You have to isolate them and beg them and talk them into it and break up cat fights. Dogs are cool. Maybe indignant but cool.

It's so frustrating how people think that they can just drop animals off in the country. I think that they blindly think that everyone who lives in the country will take in a stray and it's just not so. Many of them starve and get hit by cars or shot. I wish that people would just think.

That said, Yay!! for Sam!! Congratulations for your sweet new family member and it was so kind of your sweetie to bring him home to a nice new life.

    1. Eartha thank you and you're so right about the cats.I had one cat that was SO mad when I brought home another stray he stopped coming inside! He'd just hang out in the backyard instead.

  7. What a cutie Sam is!!
I too have no idea how someone could dump their dog/dogs. I COULD NEVER IMAGINE getting rid of my 9 year old Boxer. He's a member of our family and could never be treated any different.

All your doggies are so adorable. I hope they take to Sam quickly.

    1. Just to turn them out is so crazy to me.To not even take them to a shelter at the VERY LEAST blows my mind.

  8. That happens a lot, I can't tell you how many cats we took in and dogs, when I live out in the country. Most of the dogs were lost beagles from hunting. It's so sad.

  9. I hate people who do that! What do they think? Do they just figure someone will find them, do they think they'll fend for themselves, do they think at all?

Anyway, I'm glad you have him! He's so cute! I love him! And your other dog as well :D

I also can't understand how people can just abandon their animals like that... it seems so heartless but luckily Sam has found an amazingly beautiful and caring family to be a part of!! This makes my heart gush with happiness!!! :D xoxo

  11. What a gorgeous dog! It just horrifies me how people can be so heartless. What a blessing that Sam has found such a loving family in all of you. He was truly blessed that your husband was there that night. Good on you guys! You are angels :)

  12. I absolutely love black labs!! They are the silliest, sweetest, fussiest dogs, and I just can't imagine anyone not wanting to love and look after one :(

At least he has a loving home now; so many dogs don't get that happy ending x

  13. Oh my goodness! What a sweetie! Rescue dogs are wonderful, my dad rescues German Shepherds, one he found was trapped in a drained water resevoire :( But now she's more than happy and healthy :)

  14. You have such a good heart! Black Labs are adorable - my friend had a rescue one for many years, Tess, who was an abandoned gun dog - she was scared of loud bangs, so deemed "useless" she was dumped -People are so cruel. She was the most loyal and loving dog and I'm sure yours will be too :)

  15. Aw that poor dog! That's so wonderful that you were able to take him in. My family rescued a chocolate lab a few years ago. He was really sick and malnourished when we got him and had a lot of behavioral problems. Now he is healthy and the sweetest dog! It just goes to show that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

  16. I just found your blog and was really enjoying it. Then I found this post, and I love it! You guys are awesome for welcoming another rescue into your home. I have 3 dogs as well, so I know it can get loud/hectic/expensive but it is so worth it :D
