A New Addition to Our Family...

Whoa first off noooooooooooooooo I am not pregnant.2 is our limit we are good there!BUT we did add a fur baby to our family today and I couldn't be more thrilled!I have wanted another Boston terrier for a while but they can be expensive. With saving to move that didn't seem practical either (pffffft practical,so boring sometimes). That didn't stop me from going to a few of the local Boston Terrier rescue sites and putting in applications.

After falling in love with one I called the rescue to check to see if my application had gone through.Instead they ripped my heart out by telling me that they wouldn't adopt to me because I had children under the age of 8!The thing about Boston Terriers is that they make for great family dogs so I was upset by this but at the same time I understood.Rescues are rather militant in their adopting standards.I've joke with friends before that its harder to adopt from animal rescues than it is a human!

Thankfully the woman I spoke to didn't totally dismiss me and did give me the delightful news that though THEY couldn't adopt to me a local shelter had received a Boston and though he wasn't up for adoption yet to go check him out.Tuesday we did exactly that and though he appeared scared and distracted from the other dogs barking I knew he was going to work out perfect for us.

He was up for adoption today so since I had been tipped off I had first dibs on him. This morning as I got ready I kept worrying that maybe his owner had claimed him yesterday and he wouldn't be there.Fortunately he was!It makes me sad to know he was a stray,I hate to think someone out there has lost their pet but I was also shocked no one had claimed him already,he's a doll!

After an hour meeting with him to see how he'd do around the kids and us $35.00 later he was ours!I placed the 20 inch spiked leather collar we bought him and his new leash, dubbed him Lug Nut von Krankenshaft (Lug Nut or Lugs for short) and headed home to meet our Ollie von Frankenfurter (also known as just Ollie).Thankfully that went off without too much incident.Only "bad" thing that happened was after sniffing eachother Lug Nut decided to drop a deuce in front of Ollie...he's house trained so we chalked it up to him marking his territory *shrugs*

Right now Lug and Ollie are happily snoring away.Lug Nut is 7 and Ollie is only 2 so Ollie tends to run circles around him.I'm sure he'll have more energy once he drops some of his extra weight but he's a big love bug that shows no signs of aggression towards us,the kids or Ollie.

I'm delighted that even though I couldn't adopt through the rescue that at least I was able to get a shelter dog.I'd much rather give a dog out there a home that NEEDS one and not lining the pocket of some breeder. It depressed me greatly to see so many dogs in there that didn't get a home. The SWEETEST lab was in there with a "last chance" sign yesterday.Today she was gone.I keep telling myself she got adopted and its ok but a nagging part of me knows she was probably euthanized.I just want to urge anyone looking for a pet that shelters are filled with loving animals that need a home.Even if you prefer pure bred dogs get in contact with a rescue for THAT breed, they may be able to tip you off to a shelter like what happened with me!

My Favorite Color as a Child...

My favorite color as a child was lavender.I remember I had a lavender Schwinn with a banana seat adorned with lavender polka dots that to this day I'm still slightly upset that my mother got rid of it.I found this dress at an antique mall back in Indiana when I was still pregnant with Wayland.I bought it in hopes that I'd get my old waist line back and though I still have a few more inches to lose it does fit!

It has been pretty off and on rainy this week.Yesterday when I wore this it was originally to photograph this purse which is now listed in my shop =)

A Very Happy Valentines For Me!

Hubby and I don't really make a big fuss over Valentines. We do small things throughout the year to show eachother that we appreciate the other but that doesn't mean we didn't use Valentines as an excuse to treat eachother.Since we're trying to save for a car, moving expenses and a down payment on a house a big "to do" just seemed especially silly right now.I did indulge his video game geekery with a new game and he indulged my vintage nerdery with this fabulous vintage brooch!*Squeals*

I'm a little late showing it off because it just showed up.Even though it was bought well before Valentines it was bought off Ebay which is just a sure way to insure some form of disappointment when doing business with them.I'm definitely team Etsy not just because I sell on there but because the buying has very seldom disappointed me...where as with Ebay its more likely that I will be annoyed versus pleased.Any who, less complaining more *squealing*

Just Jeans...

I like dresses,I enjoy dressing up.But some days I just like to be lazy and wear jeans.Does that make me less fashionable?*shrugs*Eh,maybe in some circles perhaps but I like what I like and we can't be the belle of the ball everyday, its not always practical ...as in the kids don't always let me get around to shaving the OTHER leg before my shower has to come to an end.I'm sure walking around in a dress with only ONE shaved leg is a bigger fashion no no than jeans.Jeans don't have to be boring though, especially when paired with a cute top and bakelite jewelry!

Mellow Yellow....

I know so many of my fellow bloggers are ready for spring and its warmer weather.Being in California again I can't really complain because...well,its ALWAYS spring or summer here.I'm more so looking forward to it because as much as I think its a shame to wish time away I'm ready to get out of here and by late spring I'll *hopefully* be ready to do so.

Yellow always makes me think of spring, maybe its a pastel thing?Maybe its because the sour grass starts to sprout up like crazy around this time making me think spring isn't too far away.It also made me think I'd share some of the yellow items in my Etsy shop right now.

Baby Blue and Butterflies....

I had a lovely family day taking care of some business in Pasadena...and I totally blew it when it came to taking photos!I did get some comical ones of the kids playing in the park but as much as some of you do enjoy my kids posts I promise I do try not to bore the rest of you with yet ANOTHER photo of them at the park.Probably horrible of me to admit but I love my kids but eh other peoples I don't want to "oooooh" and "ahhhh" over every single amazing only to you thing that they do,in return I understand others may feel the exact same way. ;)

Oh but what made my day at the park(besides putting a smile on my kids face) was walking up to the slides and overhearing two little girls say about me "wow, she's beautiful!I love her dress,it must be her wedding dress!" to which the other replied "no,don't be stupid. She's a princess!"

I did remember to take photos of what I was wearing today, now you'll know why the little girls at the park thought I was a princess,ha ha!And I wasn't in a rush so they weren't all blurry like yesterdays failed outfit post.

During my snaps not only did I have the lovely company of my Ollie boy but this butterfly that fluttered from blossom to blossom.Blissfully unaware or uncaring that Ollie wanted to eat him...fortunately he stayed just out of reach.

Today I wore my hair in a fem-pomp.Its my second day trying it out.My hubby likes it but I'm not really sure if its me,I just know that if I had to sweep my bangs over to the side with bobby pins one more day I was going to lose my mind and destroy months of hard work by cutting my bangs and NO!I won't give up!

and I'm off to squeeze in one more episode of Kids in the Hall season 2 before much needed sleep,oh Netflix I love you.

Button,Button,Who's Got the Button?

One of the many things I was given over the holidays as a basket of buttons.I thought I'd show off a few of my favorites.

This bunch has 6 black buttons with rhinestone centers.
Photobucket

3 large rose buttons..not sure what to do with 3 but hanging on to them should I ever come across a coat with 3 buttons I'd like to replace *shrugs* you never know.
Photobucket

This last group the spiraled ones are glass and the flower one is lucite
Photobucket

And this obviously is not a button but an old outlet I found in the garage. The casing on the back is bakelite so I thought that was neat. Also a great example of attention to detail that I appreciate about old things.

Off to a Good Start....

Really?A week since my last post?Eh,so much for 3 times a week.Honestly the last week of January really flew by and I found myself this morning going "whoa, its February already?!"We're off to a good start already though as I made the front page of Etsy today!I was really excited about that.It didn't bring any sales but exposure is always good!

Today's outfit consisted of new (but thrifted) clothes and vintage mixed. My mom was nice enough to hem my sailor pants for me so I wore those today paired with a vintage camisole and sheer yellow blouse. It has a nice vintage feel to it but is modern and only $3.00 so I can't complain there. The photos were taking pretty late in the evening so I had to take them inside, quickly and with flash which I am not a fan of but better mediocre photos than none at all, right!?I like to call this look my super fierce super model look, haha!Grrrrr.Don't you just love modern day modeling?Beautiful girls in beautiful looking pissed off at the world. But in all honesty that is just the expression on my face half the time.Photos are always a reminder that I *should* smile more and why people ask if I'm angry (no,my face just looks angry *shrugs*)

Photobucket

Isn't my daughter kitchen set cute?!Anyways..a close up of my shoes!I got these beauties back in August off of Etsy by a seller named wyattedwardvintage I'd say check her out but her shop is empty now.
Photobucket

Let me think...what else was good about today?Oh I FINALLY mailed off my friend Dana's birthday present!I wanted to high five myself for that. You see,Dana's birthday is at the start of December and it is now February so I lagged a little to say the least. At first I couldn't find a box, when I found a box I was out of bubble wrap, when I finally had copious amounts of bubble wrap to insure presents arrived safely I was out of money to ship. Finally got money yesterday with a sale, finally shipped.Done and done.I also made sure to insure it because after all the trouble I had getting it to her it would be my luck that it'd arrive broken and then I'd have to punch a postman and probably go to jail. ;)

I could ramble on some more here but I'll save it for another post, thus I have something to blog about in a few days and not in a week.I will say February,I am a fan of you.Lets keep it up!
