Shake,Rattle and Roll...

Ok,actually more so rattle than any shaking or rolling but I thought I'd share a little more of what was bestowed upon me during our vacation up north.A very small bit of the large amount of goodies I got were these lovely vintage baby toys and my personal very favorite this bakelite crib toy.Its in mint condition!

Photobucket

tucked in the same box was this blue rattle
Photobucket

This one I think the packaging is even cuter than the rattle itself!

Speaking of babies...mine are jumping up and down on the bed,I'm off to go play with them now.

One Cool Yule...

Hope everyone out there has a very Cool Yule this year. The family and I have spent the week up in northern California at my ma in laws and its been a nice visit. We are heading home on Monday and that kids have made out like bandits.I have tons of photos to show off but am as per usual behind.I did snap a few photos of the fun things I got that I thought I'd share with you while I had a minute.

Personally I can't lie I made out like a bandit too.My grandmother in law gifted me 2 lovely pairs of gloves,2 hats and a lovely rhinestone necklace(all vintage of course) and my ma in law got me some cute jammy bottoms. All that I'll show off later.Where I REEEEEALLY made out was from a good friend of the family and I don't think they make thank you cards glittery enough to express the amount of joy the items gave me.Some things I will be keeping and others will be making their way to my etsy shop for others to enjoy. The weather here has been pretty yucky but here are a few snaps I managed to get while it was still a smidge of sun.

I adore this pretty birdie compact!

One of the boxes I got was filled with vintage purses and at the bottom was a handful of fans, this one I thought was so fun because of the kitties!
Photobucket

The same box of purses also had this little beaded clutch with this lovely brush lady. She has sadly had a break at the waist the I'll need to repair but regardless that doesn't change the fact that she displays wonderfully.
Photobucket

I have so much more to show.Tons of linens, tablecloths, clutches, purses, this, that and the other just no time!Hopefully soon though.I'm off to enjoy the remains of the holiday season with my family,I hope you all had a chance to do the same!

Burgers,Beaches and Fruit Baskets...

Typical day in my neighborhood yesterday.Got the kids and myself ready to go the post office, hubby joined us and afterward we took the kids to the park on the beach. My life often seems like the movie Groundhogs Day with Bill Murray, only mine is along the lines of thrifting, park, post office, listing.Sometimes that's good sometimes not...maybe you get bored hearing the repetitiveness?Well, that's why I at least have pretty photos to entertain you with.=)

Downtown is decked out for the holidays
Photobucket

After living elsewhere that has 4 seasons being back in a beach town that only knows sunny, cloudy and rain is unsettling to my senses.Peace on earth and palm trees. Its weird to not have snow.
Photobucket

I did get to wear my moccasins that I got from HulaGirl1922's shop
Photobucket

We grabbed lunch to go at the DQ and took it down to the beach to eat.
Photobucket

I appreciated the dumpster down there. Its nice to see people take something ordinary and give it some razzle dazzle

Photobucket

But didn't appreciate the man trying to keep the kids down...
Photobucket

I picked up these fruit salad basket earrings earlier in the week and though I had the best intentions of selling them I fell in love after wearing them yesterday so I am keeping them.Bad vintage seller, bad!I know.

Photobucket

Sad to report my bangs did not survive a 4 mile walk and day at the beach. They were quiet flat and fallen out of place by the time we got home.
Photobucket

and that was yesterday in a nutshell for me *insert "help!I'm in a nutshell" bad joke here*

I Love MakeUp!

I am very much a girlie girl when it comes to makeup.I don't wear a lot of it but what I do wear I suppose some would consider dramatic.I like my liquid liner, red lipstick and eye-shadows.Eyeshadow is a great way to play around with color even if you're scared of it.I know a lot of you like MAC and I have used Bare Minerals eye-shadows too and loved them. There are a lot of makeup stores on Etsy that I scoped out for awhile but was scared to try.I finally just did it with a wonderful store called Concrete Minerals .

The first color I bought from them is Napalm and was so pleased! The colors are true to the photos,go on silky smooth and are so vibrant. The shop is currently having a 20% off sale so I thought I'd share with my fellow makeup whores this wonderful news. The eye-shadows are only $5.99 to begin with, take the 20% you'd save right now and its less than half the cost of the major brand eye-shadows and honestly same quality! If you're in the need for some fun colors for yourself or last minute stocking stuffers go check them out!

Hey Sailor...

I had a good weekend in sales which I was thankful for.I got the kids and hubs covered for Yule.Still don't have my mom or ma in law covered though.Anyone else always feel guilty during the holiday season?I do and I hate it.I know there is more to this holiday than just material items but I do have some awesome people in my life and one of these days I'd just like to be able to tell me mom "hey I love you, thank you for everything and here is a pair of diamond earrings"....one day, right?

Well, anyway sales means a trip to the post office!Exciting! No not really, especially during this time of year but duty calls, its a good walk and oddly my kids look forward to the post office.More so I think they like to get out of the house and Heidi is smart enough to realize that she always gets something out of our outings.Like today it was $1.25 in quarters worth of tiny dinosaurs from the vending machine at the indoor flea market we walk by on our way to the post office. Its the little things in life. No,literally these things are TINY but she is fascinated by them.

Today I realized I wanted to wear a dress but couldn't.You see a trip to the dry cleaner for most of my dresses is badly in order and sadly a lot of my cotton dresses(which seemed like perfect attire in this hot weather)I can't wear since my waist still isn't back to normal yet.Blame it on getting older but loosing weight gets harder and as I've lamented before the last of my baby weight is all in my stomach.I've weighed more in my life than I do now and was still able to wear my size 3's no problem but not right now.I am happy to report that a size 6 is now baggy and I am in 5's.Its been a slooooow process getting back into shape this around but it is progress and so shoot me I like doughnuts...or 2 I won't lie ;)

Being able to wear size 5's means I am now able to wear these sailor pants I picked up for $2.00 at the thrift store a few months ago!

The 60's beaded angora blouse I picked up at one of the local vintage stores here call Vintage Sanctuary. Its a cute store but tiny!It has a good selection with a variety of prices from high to low. This top was only $10.I remember when I picked up it the tag read "as is" so I expected some kind of flaw...I've YET to have found that flaw on it,mistake?Don't know but I'm not arguing it.And of course you know by know my love of berets, especially angora ones. This one comes from my Friend Jan back in Indiana's shop.I miss shopping there almost as much as I miss her.
Photobucket

And that guys and ghouls concludes my outfit post.Plus side to weight loss is getting back into my old clothes again and thus I can actually do more outfit posts.I will say that though I resisted the urge to buy bigger clothes because I just want to be back to my norm that my hat and shoe collection grown a ton thanks to it.See,every cloud has a silver lining.Gals,if you don't get your pre-pregnancy body back right away like some lucky ducks don't worry,if you're like me your shoe collection will thank you.Till next time!

I Moonlight as a Fortune Teller...

Ok no I don't really moonlight as a fortune teller but this darling vintage hat I treated myself too over at TheWitcheryVintage has that feel to it,doesn't it?!I adore it.I went back and forth with myself over if I should buy it since I'm trying to save my money for the move (not that it was unreasonably priced,it wasn't I just really am trying to save every penny I make).I loved it TOO much to let it go though so with a few clicks of the mouse it was mine.Plus it always makes me happy to do business with a small business owner versus throwing my money to a big chain store at the mall.

Hair Spray to the Rescue!

Growing out my bangs requires a little more patience than I originally predicted.I have been good though and haven't cut them but I have been tempted on more than one occasion. We seem to be stuck in limbo, they're just past my eyebrows and won't seem to budge.Healthy hair on average grows half an inch per month.Get out you're measuring tape and you'll see exactly how little an inch is.*Note to hairdresser out there too when a client requests a few inches off for a trim some of you need to re-familiarize yourself with a measuring stick pronto!

I've been wearing my bangs pushed over to the side but its starting to get boring.I'm using this post as maybe a helpful motivation for other gals trying to grow out their bangs to stick with it.Now the joy of long hair is you can fake the look of bangs with a rat.Ideally I want my hair all long enough that I can play around with it more than I currently can.Bangs have served me well for 15+ years they are rather limiting in style.I'm ready for a change but oh change is hard sometimes! For all the ladies also getting bored of pushing their bangs to the side I recommend this which has kept me from grabbing the scissors:a big barrel curling iron and hairspray!

I'm sure you can all guess how I did this but in case you can't tell just crank your curling iron up,do one side and than the other curling diagonal (like a V),use your comb to carefully brush out the center part so that it blends and tuck the hair and spray in place. All the look of manicured bangs without actually trimming them.Go forth and continue growing!Really growing out your bangs should come with a support group!

2 Years Too Late...

Most vintage loving gals are use to the "too late" feeling.Feeling like you were born in the wrong era or when looking at old magazines and catalogs wishing you could go back and grab up all those pretty things.Don't you REALLY hate it though when you miss something modern though that had a lovely vintage feel by just a few years!?Ugh!

While I was searching for a pair of aqua shoes last night that I had seen a million times on Ebay when I WASN'T looking now that I was,I of course couldn't find them.I did find while doing a quick google search these beauties while looking a fashion blog from a few years ago.The site that sold them of course no longer does.I thought I would share my pain with you though.

Oh and my vegan followers will appreciate that they were vegan friendly too.Now I'm sure SOMEWHERE on the internet has them I hope but the original site they were linked to doesn't have them.Feel free to fall in love with both color combos on these delicious 40's inspired Mary Janes!

1940's Winter Fashion and Mama's Got Herself a New Pair of Shoes

I could literally spend hours pouring over old magazines.Obviously I prefer the fashion to today's concept of fashion and the ads I find much more attractive.I was looking at an issue from 1943 I was delighted to find a fashion spread on berets, coats and a turban to boot!

And oh the shoes...can we talk about the shoes?I love them!I actually scored these at an antique mall that had a vendor going out of business a few weeks ago I've just been horrible at getting around to showing them off on here.I spotted them on the lower shelf and ran over to them. With one arm trying to hold a wiggling toddler the other hand attempted to wiggle off my Converse and sock.I sat Wayland down to slip my foot in and it fit!And comfortably too!My split second of victory was short lived as I quickly had to sprint over to Wayland who had found vintage shot glasses in another booth and was happily clanging them together!Thankfully nothing was damaged but shopping with kids will keep you on your toes!
