One Mans Trash is This Womans Treasure...

My morning stroll with the kids yesterday proved to be a tad more worth it than just the usual fresh air, sunshine and exercise reasons. One of the houses a block up had a bunch of junk on the curb marked "free".In all honesty it should have just been put out with the trash a few days earlier (no one wants a vacuum held together by duct tape I think its safe to say).

In a cardboard box I did notice a life magazine from September 29th,1961!It was the ONLY thing worth rescuing and I did just that!Definitely one of my "newer" vintage Life magazines but I do adore the early 60's and I've been enjoying all the episodes of Mad Men I've missed on Netflix on demand so it seemed a fitting era to find.

I get a lot of inspiration from old magazines. It appeals to my sense of taste. It makes me cry often that I can't order the things they're advertising anymore. As a history nerd watching how mankind tends to repeat mistakes amuses me.Now this one isn't in the best of condition so I understood why they were tossing it but a tattered magazine doesn't stop me from wanting it.My nice ones I keep displayed...well,honestly that's a lie I haven't displayed any for a few years as I have small children who don't understand "gently" 100%.But the old ones, tattered, brittle and/or musty I cut apart for scrapbooking and to use on my orders.

It had one of my favorite style icons Jackie O

Makeup ad declaring the matte look is in.I concur.Face makeup should either be matte or natural.I don't get the shimmery, dewy sparkle look.Your face just looks like it needs some powder stat!

I've said it before and I'll say it again:I'm a sucker for packaging! How cute did Friskies labels use to be!!??

And I don't care if its considered "dated" I've always been a fan of the matching lips and fingertips rule. =)

Work That Skirt...

A few weeks ago I visited an estate warehouse. These skirts are in the funnest prints and must have all been from the same lady.I snagged them, got them home and being in love with the fabric hoped they'd be in my size. They're not but that's ok because they're just going in the shop then.I know wearing vintage a lot of gals get mad at only finding things with a 24 inch waist. Its why it was nice to find these, they have an elastic waist and resting they're 31 to 32 inches with a max of 44 inches!

great girlie print on this with ruffles!click here for listing

Slim Pickings...

As most of you know my original plan of moving in June fell through.I don't feel like unpacking things I've packed so closet and accessories are becoming rather slim pickings! It makes outfit posts hard to do.Also since I'm trying to save money and NOT buy things (near impossible for me) I haven't had pretty "new" things to show off.Oh dear this is making blogging awfully hard!Tee hee!The last house I've fallen in love with I'm only short 4grand which isn't too bad.Hopefully my shop gets out of the "summer slump" and does AMAZING and before you know it I'll be moved into my new home with all my things out again, plus the joy of doing posts on a vintage home!

Yes,those are Hello Kitty sandals =) plus side of having being short is I also have little feet so I can score shoes in the little girls clearance section.I'm not a huge fan of sandals but these are cute and I need to try now.As you can see in this photo I have a silly tan line on my feet from wearing my ballet flats so much so the top of my feet are tan and I'm trying to get my toes to match!Sillier still is I wore jeans too much with my flats so where the cuff of my jeans were the is a big jump in color compared with my lily white legs.

Pop Ups,the Kind That Are NOT Annoying..

Living in the digital age when I say "pop-ups" first thought is those annoying ads that spring on on your computer selling you things you're not interested in.I think we are all in agreement that those kind are annoying and hopefully we are still all in agreement that pop up books are AMAZING!

They are one of those things that as an adult I still love.My daughter has a hard time believing that I got this Jolly Jump-Ups See the Circud book for ME and not for her.I love old circus themed items. The freak shows always fascinated me and from the time I could remember I thought Betty Broadbent was beautiful.I thought I'd share some of the photos that are in ok condition with you.

F*ck Chucks!

Unless you've been living under a rock I'm sure you've heard of the monster that is football player Michael Vick.Sure he may have done his time but that doesn't forgive his sins.Just like I wouldn't trust my children to be babysat by someone that once served time for a sex crime,I CERTAINLY wouldn't trust Vick with my dogs.Nor can I support a company that holds this man as a hero.

You'll remember back when the story broke of the horrible animal abuse those pit bulls suffered through Nike dropped him as a spokesperson.Nike has since flip flopped and has signed a new deal with him!At first I thought "I don't own Nike's so I can't hit them where it hurts."My friend Michael informed me that yes, actually I can because Nike owns Converse.I love my Chucks but I love animals more and I can NOT look at myself in the mirror knowing that my money is supporting a company that would use such a disgusting human being to represent them.I am boycotting Chuck Taylor sneakers and I hope you will be too. Here is a good blog post about it that you can read:Nike Flip Flop

Fellow readers I hope you will join me in saying "NO" to Nike,BET and Subway for all playing a part in allowing this chump to line his pockets so thick after the inhumane things he has done.Nike, the ball is in your court now.I have worn Chucks for years but have thrown mine in the trash and I will not purchase a new pair until you drop this scumbag and apologize for this HUGE error in judgment.I hate spineless people and I will not do business with a spineless company.Should have stuck with your original stance of dropping him and NOT picking him back up because for what its worth it DEFINITELY cost you MY dollar.
