A Few of My Favorite Things...

Yesterday I bombed hard in the wonderful world of thrifting but today was a new day filled with new promise. It started off with high hopes.I went to an antique mall in Fallbrook that was going out of business, and frankly I could see why!The lady was nothing less than unpleasant and NOTHING was priced, she acted annoyed when I'd ask her what the prices were on something.I'd been in there one other time before and remember the prices being the EXACT SAME as last time.I asked her about sale prices since that's what they had advertised on Craig's List but she said what didn't sell was going to the costume shop next door that her family also owns.Well, good luck to you lady you're going to have a VERY overcrowded costume shop it looks like!

I did manage to find a pair of sunglasses and a cute kelly green coat with leopard print trim that will also be going in my shop but the icing on the cake is when I thanked her for my purchase as I was leaving she said nothing back and went back to complaining to I'm assuming was her mother that the store belongs to,yikes!Bad business I couldn't wait to run far,far away from that place.I just felt horribly bad for all the pretty vintage left behind.

My mom, kids and I went into another thrift store where I got a cute Vera scarf for my shop, for myself a vintage Irish wool beret with cute pompom on it.I'll show that off at a later date as it was miserably hot today and I wasn't about to put wool anywhere near my head.Passing the glass counter I noticed a rack of bracelets.I asked for this one and sure enough for $1.00 I had just found myself a new bakelite bangle. The deal was worth the very weird look the old lady at the thrift store gave me when she saw me rub and sniff the bracelet. Its a look I'm quite use to at this point in my life.

We took a short break from the thrift shops to hit up one of the delicious Mexican joints in town.I treated us since the kids had been such good sports the whole time and my mom was nice enough to cart us around. After lunch the last shop ended up being a big win!I picked up some cute hats and veils for the my shop and costume jewelry. But when I spotted the seahorse lucite earrings I knew those were never going to make it into my shop. When it comes to bakelite or lucite I more often than not end up keeping it for my personal collection.

I have to say that the last 2 place we went to had a nice staff and was so refreshing after the mega beast we'd dealt with at the antique store. This last thrift had a few awkward moments though as one lady kept tilting her head and smiling at me,then she'd let out a sigh.I think she realized I noticed and confessed that I looked exactly like her sons ex-fiancee who she apparently really liked and missed...I wasn't really sure what to say other than sorry. She commented about not being able to lead their lives for them and continued to stare at me smiling till we left, hahaha! She was so sweet but yeah a tad awkward indeed.

Today also made me realize how much I don't really care for other peoples children...or other parents inability to parent their child I should say.Heidi was playing on the floor with one of the stuffed animals by my feet as I fingered through the racks when I noticed a little boy standing over her.He was leaning over her head when I saw him start to drool over her!!!I think it got about 3 inches in length before I found myself shouting "Oh my god are you serious? What is wrong with you?!Don't do that to her!"He look startled and apologized before running to his mother who I suppose instead of correcting him for that decided to make conversation with my daughter.

She told her she was pretty and then asked how old she was.Heidi looked at her and said "WHAT?Are you serious? You've got to be kidding me" and I could feel my stomach flip and my inner voice questioning what in gods name was going to come out of her mouth next and kicking myself for blurting out what I had at the boy,ah maybe I should have said it nicer? But ew he was trying to spit on my kid. Then she uttered the following "a LADY never reveals her real age",that little gem broke the tension and everyone in the store had a good giggle over it.I think watching classic movies in front of her has DEFINITELY given her a flare for the dramatics but she also says some witty little things for a 3 year old.

Proper Blog Etiquette...

Sadly you would think this would go without saying but since I've seen these certain issues arise lately I thought I would address some of them and you can either nod your head in agreement or I've taught you a very valuable lesson in what NOT to do in the wonderful world of blogging.Where should be start?

Firstly, remember when your mother taught you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all? Some of you may have forgotten.Don't be mean.I hate when people tear down others on their blog.If you're going to leave a comment that someone is fat, ugly, too skinny or anything nasty I have to question are you old enough to use the computer without adult supervision.Grow up.You must lead an empty life if you don't have anyone in real life to be mean to and have to search it out via web.Sucks to be you, keep your toxic not so charming personality to yourself.

The Soap Box drama queens.People like to share their opinions on their blogs, this is no surprise. Please be respectful of other peoples opinions.Remember its THEIR blog, they don't need YOU the reader who is a GUEST on their blog ranting and raving and acting high and mighty.Get over yourself. For example I wear vintage fur.I'd never buy modern fur.I don't know what some of you PETA Nazis expect me to do with my grandmothers fur but sorry I'm keeping it,go have an epileptic fit elsewhere.

Accusing people of being materialistic and vapid.Earth to you, most of us here write vintage blogs,of COURSE its about material items.Look we all have our problems. Some worse than others and we could write about that stuff but I see it this way:I have my problems, you have yours why do I want to burden you with more?No thanks.Lets take a break from the real world and talk about pretty shoes,ok?Fuck yes!Sounds good to me.

Lastly,DO NOT SPAM!Spamming my blog makes me wish I could invent a device that can reach through a computer screen and choke slam you! Do not try to justify it just don't do it!If I choose to promote YOU on MY blog that is one thing but for you to promote yourself on my blog is tacky, tacky, tacky.Remember folks this is all suppose to be fun so lets act right and play nice.Don't be this gal....

Operation Bread...

We need to go grocery shopping here but it wasn't in the cards. My dinner plans were simple tuna melts but we had no bread so I rounded the troops to head to the corner store to get some.I was stoked that I was able to fit into my pink dress!A little tight at the waist still but it zips up and that's what counts, right!?This was one of those glorious $6.00 flea market finds.

Heidi I always get a kick out of because she is the type that will play with a dump truck,so long as she gets to wear a tutu while doing it.Today she decided she was all princess though.

Photobucket

The hat Heidi is wearing I scored for $5.00 at one of the thrifts in my moms town and even though it was a bit warm today I couldn't pass up a chance to wear my angora beret.
Photobucket

Wayland was looking pretty styling too but he was in no mood to have his picture taken.Operation Bread ended up in failure as the corner store was out of bread.Apparently more people than just us we're trying to put off going to the grocery store too but according to Heidi "that's ok because we're fabulous",indeed child and you are wise beyond your years.

Photobucket

Speaking of fails...My fund raising for Dori over at I am NOT my breast cancer was a fail.I wanted to raise at least $100.00 for her and didn't even reach half my goal so I've extended the 20% of my shop sales going to her for another week in hopes that I'll have better luck this time around,if my readers wouldn't mind helping me spread the word I'd greatly appreciate it!

Upgrade!

Just a quick post here.I have a magazine rack already but while thrifting the other day I came across this one...with every intent to sell it in my Etsy shop but I like it better than my current one so I'll be keeping this one and will sell my other!Yeah!Sorry the photos are dark,I was using up the good sunlight take photos of some of the treasures I'd scored so I was kind of over photo taking at this point of the day.

Photobucket

Don't forget today is the last day of my 20% of sales going to Dori!I'm way short of my goal of what I wanted to raise for her so if you've had your eye on something in my shop NOW is a good time to buy.

A Schooner is a Sail Boat Stupid Head....

I haven't done an outfit post in awhile so I thought what better day than today! This morning has been pretty hectic.I'm dealing with a broken water heater that has caused a flood in the basement that my dad refuses to do anything about and hotter than Hades weather with not so much as a fan to cool me off. This is all just adding to my wanting to get up to Alaska stat determination. All these things would equal a bad day but I'm actually in a really good mood.Partly because its hard to be upset when you're wearing orange and yellow, try it!

Photobucket
I got this dress off Etsy for a mere $17.00!It has palm trees, hibiscus flowers and sail boats all over it,such a fun print! And the good news is despite the small measurements give in the listing it fits! Its a suck it in as I zip fit but when I do get rid of the rest of my baby weight it will fit perfectly.
Photobucket
The back is fun because you can wear it like I am right now OR unbutton the straps and cross cross them, what girl doesn't love options?!
Photobucket

The Hush Puppies I showed off awhile ago that I got off Etsy I liked so much and found another pair in a different color pattern, they're a size 7 so they are a bit big but still doable.
Photobucket

My root beer ribbon clamper I bought off Ebay a few years ago and I adore it.Most of my accessories are packed up waiting to meet the hubby in Alaska again but at least I have some out.I keep pining for all my orange bakelite bangles that would go great with this dress.
Photobucket
and here is a quick shot of my and my mini-me.She's off with my mom right now getting chicken feed for my brothers hens so I'm enjoying the quiet of just one kid right now.Best take advantage of it and do something more productive.Hope everyone is having a good day and if not seriously go put on a happy color!

More Additions To My Collection...

If you've read my blog for a bit you know I collect old picture frames with the photos of the people still in them.More so the frames featuring old Hollywood stars. My personal favorite to date is still the Vincent Price one I found. The best part about this collection is its cheap!

Today the vintage gods did smile on me as I found tons of cool things for my etsy shop and found these for myself.Because honestly when you love vintage its hard to give it away sometimes so you have to treat yourself a little too.

Today's finds were Laraine Day and James Craig!

and this one was a real treat as I very rarely ever find frames in a silver-tone and this one with the ribbon accent was fantastic.

Hats and Hopscotch

Yesterday was one of those days where you try to make plans but nothing pans out.One thing was for sure though and that was Heidi wanted to do something.I had found a box with some more of my hats in it that needed wearing so what better way to show it off then with a rousing game of hop scotch in the driveway?

Here are a few snaps from inside before we went out to play that I took with my iphone ...

Wayland seemed amused enough while we played hopscotch until I turned around and realized he'd gone from drawing to sampling the tastes of the chalk so we had to wrap it up after that.
Photobucket
And of course big thanks to Ollie for being alert and on guard making sure we played safe.
Photobucket

Also don't forget right now my Etsy shop is donating 20% to Dori at I am NOT my breast cancer.
Stop by and treat yourself to some vintage and do a good deed, its a win/win!

60's Silverware and More Serious Matters....

I've cleared out a nice 6 foot by 6 foot area in the back room of my dads house. As I've mentioned before I am dealing with almost 15 years of hoarding and a man that doesn't think there is anything wrong with the current state of the house *sigh*.Though I've given up on fixing up the house like I had hoped while I was here since he no longer wishes to work with me I don't feel bad about getting to Alaska as soon as I can. While I am here though I'm still going to try and do what I can.

One thing I was glad to have found was some silverware that belonged to my dad in the early 60's.Blame it on the Spaniard in me but I saw that and instantly claimed it as my own!I mean he has 2 other sets so its very much NOT needed here so it will have a new home in Alaska with me.

I love the little atomic bursts on them.I also love that my dad got these when he use to work at a gas station in college...I guess it just shows how informal our society has become. You'd never find something like this at a gas station now,let alone a silverware set that has appetizer forks and other serving utensils.

And on to more serious matters now.I just wanted to thank everyone that has kept Vince in their prayers and don't stop praying for the little guy!I also wanted to put another person up on your pray-dar (that's cute right?I'm clever like that).I want you to meet Dori over at I am NOT my breast cancer.

I think too many of us have a "it can't happen to me" attitude. Here is the kicker,Dori is 26 years old. That's right,26 years old with breast cancer.Regardless of age we all need to be aware that it COULD happen to you and why its so important ladies to keep up on your paps to screen for cervical cancer and your mammograms to screen for breast cancer!I see this happening to more and more younger people.

Starting now through the 21st of August I will be offering 20% of all my Etsy sales to Dori to try and help her with her growing medical bills.I'd appreciate anyone helping spread the word on this too please.Again now through the 20th you can treat yourself to some pretty vintage AND do a good deed, its a double win!So shop my etsy shop and spread the word my friends!

Shoes!Glorious Shoes!

Yes,we have covered this before but I love shoes.I am not a huge fan of big chain stores but I do like Nordstroms.Sadly since I got married and had kids I never buy big for myself anymore.Today my mom took me to a dangerous place,Nordstroms Rack. You know, all the going out of season over stock type stuff at way cheaper prices! She treated me to 2 pairs of shoes but I am so picky about shoes and yet somehow managed to fall in love with 4 pair I had to treat myself to 2 pair too.I love that they have a vintage feel to them as well. Here they are in all their glory, can't wait to wear them out!
Photobucket

and as much as my five foot self should always wear heels I love ballet flats!
Photobucket

Much like the little black dress a gal can never own too many black shoes
Photobucket

and normally cherries I am torn about.Sometimes I think they're cute and other times I'm like ew cheesy rockasilly but these I nearly died over.Purple glitter lucite heel,um yes I never outgrew dressing up!

One Dapper Looking Dog...

When I mentioned a few posts ago that I got my iPhone that also meant that Ollie's id tag was no longer good and needed to be updated.Where to go for such a thing? Most people would go to a pet store but no that would be boring.I went to Etsy! And while looking around I thought "sure a new collar for the boy too!"

I picked up this collar for him from Ozark Crafting

and when the zombie apocalypse comes we'll be safe because zombies will see this id tag from Dog Tag Art on my Ollie boy and know to leave us alone.

Ollie was more than happy with his new collar and shook his little butt waiting for me to put it on him.Heidi had decided to sing as loud as possible as I snapped a few shots of my dapper looking dog so he had his ears pinned back, not because she's a bad singer but because it was LOUD and if I thought so I can only imagine how Ollie felt about it.

What Does 10 Cents Get You?

Money doesn't seem to stretch too far sometimes.10 cents doesn't get you a whole lot now a days but sometimes, yes, sometimes it can get you something really neat.Like this vintage glove holder I scored the other day thrifting. It wasn't marked which made me nervous when I asked what the price was.In my head I had made up my mind that I'd pay a $1.00 and no more.Much to my enjoyment the lady at the thrift store glanced at it,arched her eyebrow and said "10 cents?".SOLD!

Pink Flamingos and First Birthdays...

August has been busy, busy, busy so far.I can't believe I haven't blogged since the 4th,really?Yes,apparently.Still working on the giveaway,I want to do things a little differently this time around and am still in search for something cool to give away!

Yesterday my mother in law who had flown down from northern California took the kids,my mom and me to Sea World.I don't know what Wayland really thought of it but Heidi was amazed by everything. It might sound cheesy but I literally did get teary eyed watching her face as she saw killer whales for the first time in person.Plus the pet show they have with all the rescued animals was neat and they had a Boston Terrier in the performance which I wanted to take home oh so badly.

One of the easiest creatures to capture on film yesterday by far was the flamingos!Heidi loves pink so to her these birds had style and she was entertained for a long time by them.

Today was my sons first birthday!I can't believe its been a year already. He had a cheesecake and a small carrot cake and red velvet cake however he didn't get a chance to enjoy any of it.I think we waited too late into the evening to give it to him and at that point all he wanted to do was nurse. But Happy Fist Birthday all the same little man.It was hard on me not to have my husband there and for my husband to not be there for this milestone but happy to report I have enough saved for the airfare part of moving to Alaska, now I just need to come up with the moving our stuff up there part.

Palm Trees Swaying in the Wind...

First off wow!300 followers!Planning a blog give away soon my pretties! Also, got my first spam comment, boo! But at least I approve comments before they're viewed so its not like the guy got any press.

This evening I took the kids down to the harbor. My daughter is full of sass and quirky to a tee!I love that she adds her own little pieces to whatever shes wearing.Today's accessory was her pink butterfly wings.

Photobucket

I've mentioned it before but I don't do well in the heat so it was to be down there as the sun was going down with the overcast and a nice ocean breeze.

And then all that palm tree dancing reminded me of this cute 70's palm frond dress in my shop that I love but is too big or I'd definitely keep it!
