My Bedroom...

After almost a year and a half of living here my bedroom is finally properly furnished. It has been years, yes,YEARS since I've had bedroom set.Finding a vintage bedroom set in your price range can be tricky sometimes, especially if your price range is more on the "can I get that for free?" side.My husband pleaded a few times to just get over my need for vintage dressers and let him get something at Wal-mart till I found something but first off gross (no offense if that's your thing but its definitely not mine) and secondly I know my husband well enough to know that if I said yes he'd say "we already have dressers" when the time came that I found them.Sometimes its better to just do without till you get it just right.

Originally I had my heart set on an art deco waterfall bedroom set but nothing was in my price range and the pieces that were on Craigslist ended up being 3 hours away making it not quite a deal once you factor in gas and having to rent a small moving van.Eventually it just came down to "something vintage will do!" and when you open your net wider fate will work with you a little more.I spotted a bedroom set in a consignment shop months ago and told myself not to get too excited about them but if they were still there after I saved the $200 needed I'd  snag them.Thankfully there were.I didn't inspect them for labels but once they were delivered and I opened a drawer I was pleasantly surprised to learn they were Kent-Coffey pieces!

Since I finally had dressers in place I could put things on the wall!

These paintings are from 1941 and I got them in a flea market in Indiana.I got that aluminum dish with Bakelite handle also in Indiana. The clock is a reproduction of Westclox Big Bean Moon Beam.

I can't even begin to express my happiness at being able to display my vintage jewelry again.Having it on the floor definitely isn't the same. That lamp is a nice $10 score at the thrift store.

Close up of my jewelry,I love this vintage Lucite display I got off ebay over a decade ago now.Always wanted to find another but haven't had any luck.

Here is the side table.Unfortunately it doesn't work as a side table in our room since its a bit small for a "master bedroom" but works out well in this little nook.I found out from the neighbor that our 1937 home use to originally be a 2 bedroom with a garage that is now a 4 bedroom with NO garage. There are 3 rooms upstairs and they took the master bedroom and split it which totally makes sense! What was once the garage is now the 4th bedroom my husband uses as an office and the other half is now my office. The fact that we have a king bed doesn't help with the bit of cramped-ness but the thought of downgrading to a queen is something my husband and I both agree is a terrible idea. And I will never complain about it being small as the neighbor told me the original owners had 6 kids in this place!I can't even imagine.

These curtains inspired the color palette in my room, they're called "Happily Married" which I thought was good juju for the bedroom. If you look on ebay you can usually find a lovely little variety of Saison happily married fabrics.I'm not sure how many prints they had but that company definitely had some beautiful ones.

The moon I've had for years and I thought it'd go great with art deco waterfall furniture but I still like it even if I don't have the dark wood.I'm a little weird about mixing woods,I'm definitely too matchy matchy at times but I'm learning to loosen up a bit in this department.Moon and figurine were Indiana flea market finds...man,I found some good things when I lived in Indy.

And where dirty clothes go till they get washed, the hamper! There are little tweaks here and there I'm sure will be made as time goes by.Eventually hardwood floors will be put back upstairs too but for now I'm happy that all the rooms upstairs are now properly furnished!

A Lamp and a Lovely Thing For a Little Girl...

Today I only had the opportunity to go to one thrift store.I ended up finding some cute things for the shop which I'm endlessly hunting for but its nice when you find something you can't live without even if its not for you personally.I found this super cute white dress for Heidi and oh sweet vintage gods why isn't this in adult size?!

I'm hoping this summer it will fit her perfectly or by next summer.I also ended up picking up a few purses, shoes and a dress for the shop before my son ended up getting antsy and it was time to wrap it up.Sensing my disappointment with our thrifting adventure being cut short my husband drove a few blocks to an antique mall I liked and told me he'd be right back. The kids and I waited patiently in the car.He emerged 5 minutes later with this pretty!

I've needed a lamp for my office since it doesn't have a light fixture in it and this was perfect!I'll do a blog post of my office once its done up but much like the rest of the house its a work in progress. For $12.00 it was a good deal from an antique mall.I did notice that cord near the plug though was cracked.A $7.00 lamp kit from the hardware shop is an easy remedy to make your vintage lamp modern world safe!So fellow vintage lovers if you ever have passed on a cool vintage lamps cause the cord was in poor condition the hardware store is your friend.

Hooked on You...

I kind of have a thing for hardware. It could be an ugly door, dresser, cabinet or rack but this attention to detail I have I can overlook bad and adore something just because the knob, pull, handle or some other bit of hardware was appealing to the eyes.I often go without things for a long time because I don't see something I like.I'd rather not settle.I appreciate trying to find beauty in everything and appreciate people that pay attention to detail.

I mean down to the tiniest thing I am about it looking good. For example my husband once bought a cheap white boring soap dispenser for the bathroom. It was ugly and I smiled when the thing broke.I bought a much more attractive one that he raised an eyebrow over because it was $15.00 which he thought was nutty for a soap dispenser.Look if its going to be seen it should look good, right?Yes.Thank you for agreeing with me.*Note:if you're disagreeing with me please throat punch yourself in 3..2..1 GO!Did that smart?Yeah, serves you right, don't ever argue with me on my blog.*

There is no denying I spend a lot of time window shopping on the internet.Trust me if I could act on all the neat things I find I would but someone needs to tell my pocketbook to get with my program!I keep thinking of hooks I want to get for our place when the kids and I finally get up to Alaska.Given that won't be anytime soon but has that stopped me from looking already?Heck no!So here are a few of my favorites I thought I'd share with you.

Bats!I love bats!

How sweet is this lil tweet?!Very!

Is this what they refer to as "whimsical"?Selling on etsy I can tell you I see that term overly abused to the point its comical. So do I know?Honestly I don't even know what that term means anymore at this point. What I do know is if I was a rabbit I'd probably want to hang out on the moon and chit chat a spell too.Rabbit and moon hook you are awfully cute

There are plenty more to see at www.TheHookLady.com but moving onto another site with fun hooks I bring you my personal love/hate Anthropologie.I love them because the stuff is cute.I hate them because even their clearance section is too expensive for me but the hardware, not so badly priced! Now a dress from them, pffft!Don't get me started!

Another site I could spend hours daydreaming on is www.Rejuvenation.com (seriously if you are looking to spruce up your place this site is chock full of vintage inspired pieces), here are a few hooks from there that a fab!

the streamline hook, this also comes in white and black but I prefer it in the green

DISCLAIMER:if you happen to be looking at this at work DON'T go to those sites just yet.I swear you WILL get sucked in and I can't be held responsible if your boss catches on that you've spent your whole shift window shopping pretty things online instead of working and cans you.

Didn't Quite Work Out....

Incase you missed it the $15.00 chenille bedspread I wanted for Heidi at the antique mall was gone when I finally had the money to go get it. I've been pouting as to what I wanted to do till I could find another one in my price range.I remembered a salmon pink one I had stashed away (yes,I admit I'm a bit of a hoarder, not in the 10 tons of trash in my house creepy way but as in any and all closets in my home are stacked to the brim and then some).Well,as the title of this blog gives away it DOESN'T work for me.I need a pink,a true pink and this one is a salmon pink, darling all the same but too much red for her curtains and lamps.Since it's wasting space I don't have I've opted to sell it and hopefully can use the money towards another one for her room. Here are the lamps and the drapes I have in her room so you can see how they don't really work with this bedspread:

The drapes I found on Ebay and by my relentless hunting found one pair and then another so I was able to have the 4 drapes I needed to cover her 2 windows. The lamps I *shock!Gasp!Horror!* found in a dumpster! One works and the other needs to be rewired due to the fact that the plug has a crack in it and I wouldn't dare try to plug it in "as is".I should rewire both for safety purposes I just haven't gotten around to it and I found them oh geez MONTHS ago.

Here is the bedspread if anyone is in the market for some lovely chenille in the wedding rings pattern, its for a Full size bed.
