Lurking Around Old Apartments...

If you wanted to know what I did today the title would sum it up.One of the antique shops I like to frequent is an old building with a door on the side of the building that is NOT an entrance to the shop.Where does it lead?Up stairs that one could not pay me to go up or down if I was not 100% sober at the time! The gentleman that owns the shop unlocked the door for me and let me have free to roam status as I admired things of yesteryear.

The apartment hasn't been used as an apartment in a long time. The man uses it now as random bits of storage for the bigger furniture in his downstairs shop. Its dusty, run down, and a little eerie..what I'm trying to say is that it is awesome! If I was a single gal I'd definitely be bugging this gent to let me rent this place.

I moved into my home in November and there is still a lot of the home I need to furnish on top of repairing. My bedroom is one of the things that needs furnishing,I've been holding out for a 20's or 30's bedroom set on the cheap.I haven't had much luck so I'll probably just have to piece together similar pieces unless the vintage gods decide to throw me a bone here (ahem, seriously vintage gods throw me a bone!).If that is the case I think I'll be coming back for this piece when I have some spending money(why was I shopping when I was broke?I like to torture myself and I wasn't shopping I was lurking remember!?).

I love my vintage purses and I have TONS,but I do have one modern purse and yes,it is Hello Kitty.Today was one of my very rare no vintage days, even my cat eyes today were repros.

I have a morbid sense of humor and most of the things that ran through my head run a good chance at offending some. When I opened a few of the closets I didn't get anything out of it but for some reason when I opened this one in one of the back rooms it gave me a creepy vibe and I envisioned a neon sign that instead of reading "open" said "hang yourself here". Then I laughed, felt bad for laughing and shut the closet door ,and hurried out of that room.

Window Shopping...

I was over at my moms house with the kids yesterday helping her de-clutter.We took a few boxes over to donate to one of the local thrift stores in her town and on the way back to her place Wayland fell asleep so she was sweet enough to pull into an antique mall off the side of the road and let Heidi and I run in to take a look around.

It was a nice blend of vintage with fun new pieces too.Depending on the booth things went from "hey that's a great deal" to when you looking at the price tag you can't help but mutter "pfffft, yeah freaking right" and everywhere in between.

Though I'll never have a pink kitchen I can still lust over pink depression glass.

I loved this bicycle built for 2 AND the aqua childs rocker behind it!

I have to give Heidi tons of credit for being a good kid and listening to me.She wanted to climb in this thing SO badly but I had to run that line every kid hates to hear "look with your eyes not your hands".You can see her little legs walking off a bit miffed at me here in the background.

Now this chair killed me.What I thought was this giant place was actually 2 and the lady working in the back where we started informed me that the lady that owned the front of the place was never on time and always left early! And here was this adorable childrens chair just left out in the open with no price tag. When I peaked inside there was even more great things just tempting me!I'll definitely be back and praying I catch that little old gal that owns the front. Also praying that chair is still there and not too pricey!

Diaper Wipes Are My Friend Impatience is Not...

For the utter lack of sleep I got last night I was really productive today. My Etsy shop sold out so I got the pleasure of hunting to restock it today. In my haste to leave I didn't bring Heidi's diaper bag,not a big deal but oh that caught up with me about 1/2 way into our walk.I gave her the first row of a Hershey's bar when I should have broken that into the 3 pieces it allows since less time holding it means less time for it to melt in your hand and if you're a toddler all over your face, arms, legs and dress.Thank the Gods for Oxy-clean I was so scared I wasn't going to get it out of her cute red gingham dress but hooray! It did indeed come out!

It was one of those times when you do something you think "man,I am SUCH a mom".Not left with any other option I stuck my daughters grubby little chocolate covered hand in my mouth and sucked off enough so that she could not make the mess any worse. She was greatly amused by this and I booked it the rest of the way to the flea market where I dashed towards the bathroom and attacked her a wet paper towel which she was NOT so amused by.

Though I shouldn't have since my shop has been doing pretty darn good I did treat myself to something I saw there.Unfortunately I couldn't take it with me but my dear hubby is going to pick it up tomorrow.I won't even mention what it is yet because until I can show you a picture I can do no justice to the kitsh-tastic nature of my vintage find.So you'll forgive me teaser but stay tuned vintage awesomeness is coming soon!

Oh and I must somehow figure out a way to rearrange the living room so I can squeeze in this awesome chair with 2 triangle shaped side tables attached to it I saw at the antique mall,it was only $25.00!!I must make it mine,I must!

I'm So Bad..

Eeeee! It's hard to love vintage AND sell it sometimes,ESPECIALLY when you find something that is in your size too!Well, your size when you're actually you and not you plus one (Im sort of shocked by how big my stomach is already and I'm only at 23 weeks!).I went by the flea market and antique mall today.I stopped by the flea market first to pick up a VERY much needed new pair of Chuck Taylors, they were my size and gently used (top part is brand spanking new, bottoms look like they may have been worn maybe twice at the most) and only $5.00 so as broke as I am I couldnt say no,I gave one of the ladies there some money for what I owed her for selling something for her on Ebay and picked up a bakelite pin I'm going to sell on Ebay tonight...I should sell it on Etsy but I need to to move fast and everything I have on Etsy right now is at a stand still.I'm still very new to the site so Im still getting the hang of it.

Next I was off to the antique mall to pick up that chenille bedspread I wanted for Heidi's room,go figure it was gone!Grrr!Since Heidi was left at home with the hubby on my outting I decided to use this "just me" time and slowly browse to my hearts content.I looked around one of my favorite booths when I noticed this little beauty:

Now the thing is I know I should sell it because one I need the money and two I got it for a steal so the profit I'd make if I did sell it would be awesome BUT I can't bring myself to do it.I already have this one:

So I should sell one you would think, especially since I'm not due till August 4th so I'll totally be missing bathing suit attire functions anyway..Maybe if I get desperate enough I might....but the lady at the antique mall said the vendor was bringing in a 2 piece soon so if that happens to be as cheap I'll snatch that up and sell it for sure since even before kids I was never a bikini type of gal.I love this one though and if nothing else hanging onto it will only motivate me to loose all my baby weight and get back into shape quickly so I can show it off properly!

Misadventures in Antiquing...

Sometimes I fear my antiquing days may be numbered,or at least cut drastically. The thought of trying to balance a newborn and a toddler in one seems mind boggling.Heidi has literally been raised in them and for the most part does extremely well. The best advice my mother gave me in concerns of parenting is "just remember they can't all be good days".This was so the case today (well, technically yesterday as its past midnight my time).

It's one of those situations as a parent you can't avoid, its going to happen to matter how sweet your child is,no matter how much you pride yourself in keeping a calm head your child will on occasion throw a fit of epic proportions in a store and you will be mortified.Jan the owner of one of the antique malls I frequent LOVES Heidi and even as she was throwing a fit was telling me how precious she was.I wrapped up my looking and before I decided to go up to the front to pay for some things I had picked out on Saturday that Jan was sweet enough to let me take with me at the time since I had forgotten my bank card my ever growing baby belly reminded me that I can't go 20 minutes without peeing. So I pick up Miss Grumpette and head to the back of the store to use the restroom.

Urination is a simple thing non-parents take for granted, there is truly so such thing as peeing in peace with small children.I had no sooner sat down when Heidi grabbed a can of Lysol and maced herself in the face with it!Gah!I pulled my pants up quickly and ran her to the sink and flushed her eyes with cold water, this only angered her off more so her screams were ear piercing at this point and all I could think was man I wish I could just tap my heels (or in this case ballet flats) together and take us home instantly. I couldnt get out of there fast enough.Heidi seemed fine so I went up to the counter with her to pay,put her down and she starts to walk off as Im givng Jan my card and one of the vendors that has been talking to Jan in this REALLY shitty tone tells Heidi "YOU need to have your hand held in THIS store I dont know what youre thinking".

I think I go on mother bear over drive sometimes cause I found myself actually raising my arm back like I was going to deck this woman.Instead I shot her the look of death and picked Heidi back up and signed my sales slip and wished Jan a good day.The bitchy vendor as Im walking out the door about to turn around to grab the stroller pushes it out the door for me,um thanks I get the message lady.Part of me really regrets not saying anything to her but I just wanted to get out of there and get Heidi home asap and I just could not believe this woman was trying to make the situation just that much harder on me.I stayed calm though and handled it well.We got outside and Heidi is sniffling at this point and snuggling into my neck.I looked up to see the uber bitch staring at me and instead of telling her what a wretched cunt I thought she was decided to opt for the passive aggressive approach and tell Heidi loudly "aw did that mean old woman scare you?Its ok Baby, she's not very nice I know".Yeah she heard me and yes I will be giving Jan an earful about that vendor next time Im in the store!

I had no sooner put Heidi into her stroller when she looked up at me with her tear stained face, smiled and promptly passed out.She napped for 2 hours and awoke back to her sweet as a peach self,aw the amazing emotional roller coaster that is a toddler.Well,I have a doctors appointment in the morning so I should get some sleep.Another ultrasound so fingers crossed its still a boy!I know my husband will probably cry if he finds the nurse was mistaken... we'd love another daughter all the same but in a way it would be like loosing a child since we've planned so much around having a boy this time.I always fret about these things,I remember with Heidi I asked them with every ultrasound "its still a girl yes?!" ... perhaps Id just heard too many horror stories of women buying all this stuff thinking they were having one gender and only to find out near the end that the doctors were mistaken!I just dont ever want that to happen to me.
