One Mans Trash is This Womans Treasure...

My morning stroll with the kids yesterday proved to be a tad more worth it than just the usual fresh air, sunshine and exercise reasons. One of the houses a block up had a bunch of junk on the curb marked "free".In all honesty it should have just been put out with the trash a few days earlier (no one wants a vacuum held together by duct tape I think its safe to say).

In a cardboard box I did notice a life magazine from September 29th,1961!It was the ONLY thing worth rescuing and I did just that!Definitely one of my "newer" vintage Life magazines but I do adore the early 60's and I've been enjoying all the episodes of Mad Men I've missed on Netflix on demand so it seemed a fitting era to find.

I get a lot of inspiration from old magazines. It appeals to my sense of taste. It makes me cry often that I can't order the things they're advertising anymore. As a history nerd watching how mankind tends to repeat mistakes amuses me.Now this one isn't in the best of condition so I understood why they were tossing it but a tattered magazine doesn't stop me from wanting it.My nice ones I keep displayed...well,honestly that's a lie I haven't displayed any for a few years as I have small children who don't understand "gently" 100%.But the old ones, tattered, brittle and/or musty I cut apart for scrapbooking and to use on my orders.

It had one of my favorite style icons Jackie O

Makeup ad declaring the matte look is in.I concur.Face makeup should either be matte or natural.I don't get the shimmery, dewy sparkle look.Your face just looks like it needs some powder stat!

I've said it before and I'll say it again:I'm a sucker for packaging! How cute did Friskies labels use to be!!??

And I don't care if its considered "dated" I've always been a fan of the matching lips and fingertips rule. =)

Well,Well,Check Me Out...

Yes!After almost 2 weeks I have internet connection,my OWN connection so I can blog and list anytime I want now!Woohoo!Check me out!Lots of things I could share with you all right now but what I really need to do above all is play catch up on some things.Lots of blogs to catch up on and work I need to do so I'll save fun pictures and stories for the next post.

Its been so nice having the hubby back. We've had a good time hanging out and doing fun things with the kids. The job hunt is going not so smoothly but fingers crossed things will turn around on that soon.I've done not too much thrifting lately but have found some neat pieces for my shop and of course myself.Just wanted to share my joy and drop a note before anyone thought I'd fallen off the face of the earth....that happens more often than you think you know, tragic really.;)

Speaking of checking things out I thought I'd share this ad from one of my 1951 Life ads,it cracked me up.These ladies are sitting back enjoying a drink and clearly checking out this fellas tush as he cooks up some dinner.

So I'm a Horrible Liar....

Remember how I said I wasn't buying myself anything else since we were moving?Yeah,I lied.I'll be the first to admit I have a shopping problem.Mainly that is why I took to selling vintage, otherwise you would have seen me on a show like Hoarders a long time ago.
These cuties I was wearing the other day in my outfit post but forgot to do a close up of them so here is the etsy listing photo of when I bought them, they were $10.00!Really,$10.00 so how could I not?

I had a busy day.The zoo by our house reopened so hubs and I loaded the kids and I OF COURSE forgot my camera! After that hubs took our daughter for junk food and home while I took the boy and walked downtown to mail off my etsy packages and also the goodies for both of my giveaway winners so ladies expect those soonishly (what? It's my blog I can invent words its fine) .

I stopped by my friend Jan's antique shop for a minute to catch a break from the heat and dropped off a pair of AMAZING lucite shoes at the cobbler for repair.Seriously I love those shoes and I'm so bummed they were a size too big to those will be making it into my etsy shop soon...I might have to blog about those once I get them back, they're seriously THAT drool worthy.Aw cobblers, yours is a dying trade as we enter deeper and deeper into a throw away nation.Trust me ladies and gents, cobblers can do amazing things so if you have a pair of vintage shoes or even a modern pair you loved to death don't toss them just yet they might be able to be saved!

My daughters 3rd birthday approaches at the end of the month,I've been wanting to get her a Schwinn tricycle and we're lucky to have one downtown...or so I thought.Apparently the lock and key shop next to it was spread over to the bike shop and the bike shop is no more, not even a sign to say they went out of business or moved. The old sign still remains though.

Windy Days and Weight Loss...

Yesterdays errand run ended up taking a lot longer than usual.Mostly because every few steps I'd end up having to run after my daughters hat that she insisted on wearing and putting it back on and I wore a nice white cotton eyelet dress that left me looking like I was badly impersonating Marilyn Monroe in the vent scene in "Seven Year Itch".Yes,sadly those Indiana winds made a fool of my daughter and I yesterday. We were more comical than stylish.

It was so windy that I didn't get a chance to get to snap any photos. In good/bad news I can no longer wear a vintage dress.Sad about the dress but happy because the reason I can't wear it anymore is it is now too big!So I put it in my Etsy shop. You can see even in this photo the wind was already starting to kick up as my hat tried to take off a few times.I'm happy to see my waist is only 4 inches away from being able to fit in my old clothes!Yeah progress!

The hat and dress were antique mall finds and the shoes I got on Etsy.I'll do an entry on them later because they're just that cute. The hat has a veil that I need to repair but for $4.00 I nearly died when I saw it!

Rainy Days and Running Errands...

Today was anything but glamorous.Lots of laundry, deep cleaning and grocery shopping.Add "mommy can't find time to wash her hair" and a scarf set the tone for my wardrobe today, total lazy mode:scarf, jeans, wife beater and Chinese laundry shoes.

Here is little man waking up from his morning nap making the funniest lil face and myself in all my greasy haired glory.
My daughter however put me to shame as she picked out her outfit today.Lucky girl!I have to let her relish this moment in her life.It is a short time frame where you can wear a tutu and butterfly wings and everyone thinks you're adorable and not insane.
