Nothing of Significance...

I am going to make an attempt to blog 3 times a week...but that also means I need to have things to blog about. As of right now I am already blowing it as I have nada, hence the title. What do we do then?We ramble.I can do that.2011 has been pretty mellow.

New Year was ho hum and the second was my birthday. It was also uneventful,no cake,no happy birthday song.I am 29 which I am well aware is still young but it was a slightly depressing birthday for me as this isn't where I saw myself at 29...I'm sure a lot of people do that to themselves though. Most goals set in life aren't reached or we fall short but its just a matter of picking yourself up and keep chugging along.I think I do that pretty well. This is my year though that I'm going to make myself be where I want to be come Hell or high water!

Also chugging along are my bangs.I will not cut them,I will not cute them.I will not cut them.

Ollie turned 2 back on the 23rd if December.I told him this is the year I get him neutered,he didn't like that idea.

You'll forgive me for being a tad morbid but despite it being heartbreaking to find a dead humming bird in the drive way today it was also beautiful so I thought I'd share. The fact that it's dead isn't pretty by any means but normally we don't get to see humming birds so close and they move so fast you miss the detail but isn't he/she beautiful!?

As a child I always though they had fairy like wings because they moved so fast.I remember the first time I ever saw one sitting still I was surprised to see they had wings just like any other bird.I found a duck dead in the drive way a few weeks ago.I hope this doesn't become a pattern.Apparently my dads driveway is where feathered creatures come to die.

Tin Full of Memories...

My love for vintage costume jewelry started early.I remember as a child being given a few tins of vintage costume jewelry to play with by my grandmothers. In fact my first piece of bakelite was a a set of 3 root beer swirl spacer bracelets!I still have 1 but the others much like most of the contents of the tin boxes were taken out and lost along the sands of time...yes,I kick myself for this but I was a kid and didn't know better.I took pretty good care of most of my stuff but kids still lose things.

Today while trying to clear the clutter of this old house I found one of the tins!I opened it to find a LOT of junk, sewing needles, old lighters,(um why did anyone let me play with this box again?) but my favorites were these:
an old wooden button that's shaped like a bowling ball with a bowling pin hanging from it!I had a vintage golden chain that was looking for a charm so I made the button into a necklace.

other favorites were these pretties.A penguin barrette!Too freakin' cute!I put that in my box of hair stuff to wear at a later date. The cameo is a button and the rhinestone brooch that is missing its the backing now.I have a bag of broken but great vintage jewelry that I want to do something with, these will be making their way into that bag...as soon as I find the bag that is.Oh moving you suck sometimes, especially when the moving process is in limbo for months. But when do finally get to Alaska it will be good,oh yes,it will be.

And today WAS going to be an outfit post BUT I got as far as this shot:

before the kids for me sidetracked and I didn't get to snap a picture for the rest of the day.Don't get me wrong I picked up the camera again MANY times,to get a cute shot of the kids,to get some photos of the merchandise I picked up during my fun thrift score yesterday and to get an outfit post but no,life it just gets in the way of plans sometimes. But for those of you that are visual I had on black Mary Jane's,a vintage black a-line skirt and this black and glitter gold striped 70's tank top I picked up yesterday that you can get a glimpse of.Well,I should get wrapped up here.Need to get my beauty sleep as I will be hitting up the remains of an estate sale tomorrow.I've only had a chance to go vintage hunting once since I've been back in California but it was a well worth it trip! Now I just need the time to get it listed!

What a Nut...

You know what I find adorable?Acorns.Odd thing to find so cute maybe but really I do.Perhaps partly because they hold fond childhood memories.I played alone a lot as a child.Don't get me wrong I did have friends but as for the majority my social anxieties started early,I was painfully shy, awkward and weird...Now I may not have grown out of it but at least I grew up to embrace it.

I grew up around horses and remember staying all day at different houses of my mothers friends who had them in an area with lots of Oak trees.I'd keep myself entertained for hours making tea parties with the caps of acorns for myself and various imaginative friends.I thought I'd share some of my favorite acorn themed items on Etsy right now.

What?!Acorns AND strawberries?Totally adorable!Vintage Charm Bracelet
