Starbursts,Shoveling,Shoe Clips and Snuggling...

Yep,that title pretty much sums up my photos today.I got Wayland's dresser this weekend so I'm ALMOST ready for a blog post on his vintage cowboy room, still waiting on a few touches before I want to show it off though. As far as other thrifting most of what I've bought has been for the shop but when I went to pay for the dresser I did pick up this cool light fixture for $1.00!

Today consisted of shoveling the drive way. No,wearing a cute vintage snow hat and wearing red lipstick didn't make it feel better this time.I like a sunny day but going out at noon wasn't a good idea. The sun was painfully bright!Listening to some 77 punk makes it go by faster.I'm a vintage loving gal but I am glad to live in a modern time when I can listen to music while doing mundane chores like shoveling the drive.Plus side,I will have amazing toned arms for all those spring dresses!

Oh and yeah in case you don't follow me on Facebook it may be news to you that my bangs are back.Bang growing out attempt #2 is a failed mission *shrugs*

I've been hoping to do a cute outfit post showing these off but cold weather really limits by ability to wear cute shoes sadly. But I won a gift certificate a few weeks ago to Shoe Clips that the lovely Brittany at Va Voom Vintage hosted on her blog.

The site has a lot of options,it was hard to pick but I chose a pair of red bows and rhinestone heart shoe clips.Shoe clips are a great and inexpensive way to give a new look to a pair of shoes.I had fun trying them on some of my shoes this morning.

On these I think they'd look cute clipped to the back too!

Indecisive Bathroom Decor Decisions...

Sometimes I'm not very good at deciding what I want to do,this is especially true in my home decor. If I can't find what I want I'll just go without until I find something just right.Other times I think I know what I want and half way into the project I change my mind. This is what happened with my bathroom.Sadly AFTER I painted it so I get to paint it again. It has high ceilings.I don't look forward to that again. Before I left California I bought this barkcloth curtain panel at an estate sale.

Photobucket

I finally got around to listing it and then the next day pulled the listing because I decided it would make for an awesome shower curtain! The problem is I only have one bathroom in my new house which meant my atomic shower curtain and my Miller Studio fishes weren't going to work.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I put the shower curtain on Ebay and the fish are on Etsy

Now do you guys think I should paint my bathroom chartreuse or pink? And as far as wall hangings I'm thinking swans or poodles, which do you think is more fitting with the curtain?

Swans from Flabby Rabbit on etsy.

Poodles from SkipperJack on etsy.

It'll be a bit down the road but eventually I'm going to get this sink (I think, there are so many choices its hard for a gal to decide) I saw from vintagetub.com
Photobucket

I want to redo the floor which means that I have to have the money for the new tub, toilet and sink too since we'd want to do the floors first before we put those things in.Why are my projects always so expensive?I want hubs to lay hexagon floor tiles like this photo courtesy of Katyelliott.com

Gifts from the Mint Chocolate Ranch...

Dana over at Mint Chocolate Ranch is a good gift giver! My birthday present from her showed up in the mail this morning and it was just what I needed! You know that depressing feeling when all your bills show up at the same time?Well, its a proven fact that is a present shows up at the same time it voids the "ew,you again?I just paid you LAST month" feeling.

I opened the box to a pretty fluff of red tissue paper and THIS birthday card.Yes,it is a velvet Elvis card.So awesome.Even if you don't like Elvis you can appreciate the kitsch of velvet paintings.Don't like Elvis AND kitschy velvet paintings?I can't help you sorry.

Next was this delicious bar of chocolate from Moonstruck and some Burt's Bees almond milk cream love that stuff it smells so good!

Lastly a TUK shoe box.Hmmmm, was it shoes?Or was it something else in a shoebox?Never assume in such situations.Opened the box to find these 4 inch bad boys! They fit which was such a relief! So when I'm wearing these pretties I am a whopping 5 feet an 4 inches now!

Thanks Dana for the awesome gifts!Another year where you rocked my socks. And unlike me you actually send birthday presents promptly around said birthday date (unlike me who usually will mail a present within 3 months of birthday)

Happy Holidays,Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to Me...

I hope whatever you celebrate your holiday was a happy one.Safe to say December was not a big blogging month for me as I only did one post. That's ok,you were probably all very busy too so you didn't notice, unless you're stalking me.Are you stalking me?Cause that would be super(kidding, don't be creepy)!

New Years came and went quietly in my home and today I celebrate my 30th birthday!I can remember being 15 and thinking 30 was light years away. Now its here.I don't feel old like I thought I would then, just a hell of a lot wiser.30 does make me feel "grown up" though...except I still say "dude" too much.Probably always will. You can take the gal out of SoCal but you can't take the SoCal out of the girl.

30 is the start of a new decade for me.I'm more comfortable in who I am,what I want to be,and what I want to do in my life.Do I have it all figured out?Certainly not,no one does but in comparison to my 20's I'm not sad to leave them behind.Time is short,it sounds cliche but it does go by faster than you think.Moments you waste unhappy are moments you can't have back so don't squander them.

I'm learning to let go of past hurts,to stop trying to figure out "why" all the time and realize somethings just are, learning I need to be happy in the moment instead of stressing about the past or future.Time is NOT on your side.It goes on with or without you so make the best of the time you're allowed.

Photobucket

Like my collection of broken pocket watches?I plan on stringing them up on silk chord, just not sure where I'll be displaying them just yet.As far as thrifting in my new town I haven't done nearly as much as I'd like.I did pick myself up these red pretties about a month ago though.$3.00!My inner nerd...ok my totally out of the closet flaming nerd self LOVES them!I either seem to be drawn to elegant heels, simple classic flats and nerdy shoes of the oxford and bowling variety.Plus red!You can never have enough red shoes!

House wise I'm happy to say since my last post I am now the proud owner of a washer and dryer! It took 3 days to get caught up on all the laundry but good bye laundry mat hello the simple task of going down to the basement!I wish I could share with you another room I've finished but so far Heidi's room remains the only room in the house done 100%.Dining room is 99% down but not ready to show yet.Bathroom is about 90% and everything else oh baby I need to come into some money cause those are some pricey projects!Especially the kitchen!Yikes! But for now I'll share with you some of the vintage light fixtures in the home.

Photobucket

I'm off for now to enjoy these lovely white out conditions that will keep us inside today and hope that hubs gets home safe.Oh and will the winner of my last giveaway please get back to me with an address! If not I'll be doing another drawing soon.Hope all of you are having a fantastic 2012 so far!

Winners,Washer and Dryer Woes and Sales...

Thank you to everyone that entered my giveaway! And to all the new followers I gained while doing this "hello"*waves spastically *.The lucky duck for this giveaway is the ever so adorable Vintage Chinchilla! Please leave me your address in a comment (don't worry I won't publish it just erase it after I've written it down) and I can send you off your goodies!

As much as I'm loving my new home and making it my own my one lament is that it didn't come with a washer and dryer. My best advice to anyone buying a home is make sure you have a few grand saved for fix it ups and things you need.We spent all our money just getting into the place leaving nada for anything else.I don't drive which means my husband has been taking the laundry to the laundry mat.

I love my husband and he's a great guy but..well...laundry is just NOT his strong point.I know some of you fellas are perfectly competent in doing laundry but my hubs is not on of them.Clothes come back damp, unfolded and wrinkled. Its killing me.Oh and in the almost 3 weeks I've been back he's gone once. And he only look one load!Hahaha!I feel like a brat complaining. The poor guy works all the time and I know his days off don't want to be spent at a laundry mat which is why I hope I can get the laundry duties back in my hands again.

How amazing would it be to have this pink washer and dryer?!No,I'm not looking for a vintage washer and dryer but boy are they pretty to look at!No,what I need is just a low priced set in plain ole white with one of those fancy "energy star" stickers on them would do just fine.
Photobucket

My saving for a washer and dryer fund has been slow going.I thought I'd do a sale in my Etsy Shop since I didn't do one for black Friday/cyber Monday like a lot of other etsy sellers did and help it grow a little quicker hopefully. This sale is a short one.Its on now until Saturday Dec.3rd at 11pm CT.If you'd like to save 20% on something you had your eye on there is now time like the present.

I'm back in the Midwest and it feels good! After being in southern California for a year and 1/2 I almost forgot about 4 seasons.I'm in the great white north with lots of snow,I thought I'd do a snow inspired giveaway. Thus all my goodies for this giveaway are white! For one lucky reader you get a Robinson's pillbox hat,a hankie,2 pairs of earrings and a darling Avon poodle decanter. All of it vintage naturally as this IS a vintage themed blog..mostly.sometimes I ramble on about other things. Its what I do best(SEE,I'm doing it RIGHT NOW!).

Photobucket

The internet is a big freaking place and I appreciate the friends I've made through it,sharing a little slice of my world with you all and getting to see some of yours.Good luck to everyone and once again thanks for reading!

One Room Down,Many More to Go...

I left California behind in the wee small hours of the morning on Tuesday. Its been a whirlwind of boxes ever since!Heidi's room is the only thing I got 100% down. All the other rooms are either in need of furniture or in the middle of dry wall.I'll save the wacky world of wall paper this place has/had for another post though. The house is darling and I couldn't be happier!I was a little off on the history though so I thought I'd correct myself now.Originally I was told the house was built by the government in the 40's for soldiers returning home from WWII to work in the mines up here.Turns out it was built in 1936 by the government just to get soldiers up here for work. But onto the room!

Heidi is the type if girl that will play with a dump truck while insisting that she wear a tutu. When it came to her room though she wanted 100% girlie so that is what she got.Ballerinas, chenille, and pink up the wazoo and of course all of it with vintage!

The rooms are small so I told her that her room would be for sleeping, reading and she could have her ceramic tea party items up there away from her brothers 2 year old hands. They have a play room down stairs for their big stuff and most of their toys so it works out.The dresser I scored at a thrift for $15.00!
Photobucket

The matching night stands I found at Vintage 101 for $20 each and you may remember the lamps were a dumpster rescue back when I lived in Indiana.
Photobucket

These prints I picked up in Indiana from my friend Jan's shop.

Photobucket

and last no room is complete without a pink hamper to put your dirty tutu's in at the end of the day!

Alright,I'm off to tackle more boxes and make sense of this hot mess but its good to be home!
