Starbursts,Shoveling,Shoe Clips and Snuggling...

Yep,that title pretty much sums up my photos today.I got Wayland's dresser this weekend so I'm ALMOST ready for a blog post on his vintage cowboy room, still waiting on a few touches before I want to show it off though. As far as other thrifting most of what I've bought has been for the shop but when I went to pay for the dresser I did pick up this cool light fixture for $1.00!

Today consisted of shoveling the drive way. No,wearing a cute vintage snow hat and wearing red lipstick didn't make it feel better this time.I like a sunny day but going out at noon wasn't a good idea. The sun was painfully bright!Listening to some 77 punk makes it go by faster.I'm a vintage loving gal but I am glad to live in a modern time when I can listen to music while doing mundane chores like shoveling the drive.Plus side,I will have amazing toned arms for all those spring dresses!

Oh and yeah in case you don't follow me on Facebook it may be news to you that my bangs are back.Bang growing out attempt #2 is a failed mission *shrugs*

I've been hoping to do a cute outfit post showing these off but cold weather really limits by ability to wear cute shoes sadly. But I won a gift certificate a few weeks ago to Shoe Clips that the lovely Brittany at Va Voom Vintage hosted on her blog.

The site has a lot of options,it was hard to pick but I chose a pair of red bows and rhinestone heart shoe clips.Shoe clips are a great and inexpensive way to give a new look to a pair of shoes.I had fun trying them on some of my shoes this morning.

On these I think they'd look cute clipped to the back too!

Thrift Scores...

I ended up hitting 4 different shops yesterday and found a little something at each.Mostly for ME and not so much the shop but that's ok.Those days happen and honestly better than finding nothing at all, right?!

These obviously aren't vintage but they were brand new AND only $2.00!My closet was lacking blue shoes.Sure I have navy but these electric blue bad boys needed to come home with me.Wedges are my friend.
Photobucket

When I spotted this darling knit cap I hoped it was for adults.Sadly for me it was child size, fortunately for my daughter it fits just right.I freaking LOVE these knit hats though!Beats a beanie any day in cold weather.
Photobucket

I'm a huge fan of vintage costume jewelry. This Trifari necklace will be hitting the shop sometime this week.
Photobucket

This squaresville plastic bangle will be too!
Photobucket

Now because I love vintage costume jewelry that also means I have a hard time parting with it sometimes. For example this moon shaped lucite confetti bracelet with rhinestone starts in copper will NOT be hitting the shop but hanging out with me instead.
Photobucket

And last I scored a ton of drinking glasses. The little ones on the left I found 6 of,they're from Libbey. The taller ones on the right I found 7 of and are from Anchor. All need a good bath in some white vinegar to remove the hard water build up they have on them.

I Moonlight as a Fortune Teller...

Ok no I don't really moonlight as a fortune teller but this darling vintage hat I treated myself too over at TheWitcheryVintage has that feel to it,doesn't it?!I adore it.I went back and forth with myself over if I should buy it since I'm trying to save my money for the move (not that it was unreasonably priced,it wasn't I just really am trying to save every penny I make).I loved it TOO much to let it go though so with a few clicks of the mouse it was mine.Plus it always makes me happy to do business with a small business owner versus throwing my money to a big chain store at the mall.

Itchy Finds and A Give Away Question...

Productive week in my neck of the woods.Decluttered more of my dads kitchen (goodbye numerous Jello boxes that went bad in 1998),managed to pay off a credit card (woohoo!) sat and thought about what exactly I need to do to get where I want (which is to be in Alaska with my husband and not here). Also realized we have 3 short months...97 days...till the Yule Tide season, frightening yes?I think so.It also puts a time frame on what I need to do to get things in order so I can spend Yule with my family together again.

In thrifting news I scored myself this eggplant purple vintage wool beret.I love berets but to be more specific I love angora berets.I have a red and a pink one and its like a fluffy little cloud decided to snuggle on my head for a nap.Wool, not so much but its only a little itchy at first so I can handle it.
Photobucket

And just so no one thinks I forgot I started to plan a 300 follower give away when I was in the 290's and here I am at 317 followers and I still haven't done one,boo and hiss to me I know.I wanted to throw together a few things for the give away but all I've come up with thus far is a vintage Corde purse and it occurred to me "hey, maybe you should ask you followers!" So.....what would you guys like to see in a give away?We have to keep it universal which means clothes and shoes are unfortunately out but things like accessories, makeup, hats and jewelry are fair game,c'mon tell me and I can whip together this giveaway before I find myself at 400!

Winter Hats...

No secret that I love hats. With winter approaching I figured the kiddies and I would need some "new" ones.Once we get to Alaska we'll be getting lots of use out of them.Yes,style and purpose its a great thing.I say this because in southern California we don't get real weather. We get sun, cloudy and rain and everyone loses their mind when it falls below 68 and swears it freezing,ha!If you do see someone wearing a winter hat its usually a hipster and sorry when its hot and you're wearing a Elmer Fudd hat I can't help but cock my head at you like a confused puppy.I like my 4 seasons and can't wait to get somewhere that has them again.

I found all our hats on Etsy for great prices. Here is the one I got for myself:

Here is the one I got for my darling daughter:

and last but not least here is the hat I got for my oh so charming hat (and holy cow isn't this little boy adorable?!):

The great thing about vintage for children is you can usually find it insanely cheap. Its such a pleasure to get high quality items so affordable at great prices. It is sadly an overlooked market.I see so much little kids clothing that just doesn't look like a little kid should be wearing it.Kids are only kids for such a small fraction of time that I hate to see them pushed any faster than they need to be.

Stores like Ambercrombie making little girls thongs and things of that nature truly disgust me.I would never shop there to begin with because just walking by that store gives me a horrid headache because of the gross overuse of perfume but that kind of stuff just further assures me to NOT to business with them.

I get nonstop compliments on my children when they're in vintage and what mother doesn't LOVE to hear people gush about how cute her kids are?Not one that I can think of.I am eager to get the hats in the mail and have some blog posts of the kids and I in our hats with a winter wonderland background in a few months!Well,I'm hoping a few months anyway.I am missing my husband terribly and am eager to be together again.

Today I also wanted to quickly say that my heart goes out to my fellow Americans as we come upon the anniversary of a tragic day in American history.I covered my feelings on this last year so I don't feel I need to repeat myself again. For those gone know that you are not forgotten,we will never forget.

Operation Bread...

We need to go grocery shopping here but it wasn't in the cards. My dinner plans were simple tuna melts but we had no bread so I rounded the troops to head to the corner store to get some.I was stoked that I was able to fit into my pink dress!A little tight at the waist still but it zips up and that's what counts, right!?This was one of those glorious $6.00 flea market finds.

Heidi I always get a kick out of because she is the type that will play with a dump truck,so long as she gets to wear a tutu while doing it.Today she decided she was all princess though.

Photobucket

The hat Heidi is wearing I scored for $5.00 at one of the thrifts in my moms town and even though it was a bit warm today I couldn't pass up a chance to wear my angora beret.
Photobucket

Wayland was looking pretty styling too but he was in no mood to have his picture taken.Operation Bread ended up in failure as the corner store was out of bread.Apparently more people than just us we're trying to put off going to the grocery store too but according to Heidi "that's ok because we're fabulous",indeed child and you are wise beyond your years.

Photobucket

Speaking of fails...My fund raising for Dori over at I am NOT my breast cancer was a fail.I wanted to raise at least $100.00 for her and didn't even reach half my goal so I've extended the 20% of my shop sales going to her for another week in hopes that I'll have better luck this time around,if my readers wouldn't mind helping me spread the word I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hats and Hopscotch

Yesterday was one of those days where you try to make plans but nothing pans out.One thing was for sure though and that was Heidi wanted to do something.I had found a box with some more of my hats in it that needed wearing so what better way to show it off then with a rousing game of hop scotch in the driveway?

Here are a few snaps from inside before we went out to play that I took with my iphone ...

Wayland seemed amused enough while we played hopscotch until I turned around and realized he'd gone from drawing to sampling the tastes of the chalk so we had to wrap it up after that.

And of course big thanks to Ollie for being alert and on guard making sure we played safe.
Photobucket

Also don't forget right now my Etsy shop is donating 20% to Dori at I am NOT my breast cancer.
Stop by and treat yourself to some vintage and do a good deed, its a win/win!

Autumn is Almost Here!

Autumn is my favorite season!I keep getting excited to think July is almost over and August will be the transition into the end of summer, start of fall...maybe September,we'll see.Being in southern California I don't think I'll get to appreciate it as much as back in Indiana. That is one thing I will always miss about Indy.Despite popular opinion I do not like Southern California.I know,I know.I must be insane.Oh wait!I am!*insert mad scientist laugh here*.

I just don't like the feeling of stagnation and that's what southern California feels like to me.The weather rarely changes, there is so cycle of seasons.I see so many of the same people doing the EXACT same thing as when I left.Heck, even the radio stations still play the same songs that I use to hear in high school. It is a beach town,my home town and that is what people like about it.For me..well,its not my cup of tea.Plus if you behold my pasty white glory you can see clearly I am not a beach bunny. The sun makes me sick and I don't do well in the heat!So Alaska I am ready for you!So ready!

My hubby has started his job up there which I am thankful for. After over a year of unemployment he's happy to be back to work. And working 12 + hour shifts,7 days a week at that! Its all in cycle with what needs to be done in order for us to all be together again.I've started saving the pennies my etsy shop makes too to help the move along faster.Things here at my dads aren't going very smoothly. Its a lot harder than I thought and to the point without boring you with all the family drama I know he needs to be in a 24 hr. care facility.I came here to help and my help isn't being used properly. If he wants to remain in denial about the severity of things I can't do much now can I?Nope, not so much. But hey A for effort I tried. That's all you can do sometimes with people.

I have to do whats best for my kids and myself and that is being a family again in Alaska.I've been back here a little over 2 months and it feels like so much longer! But a nice surprise today was awaiting me in the mail from my husband,it was a new cellphone. He'd gotten us our Alaska numbers and its an iPhone!I'm not one for technology usually but holy geekery I do adore this phone I really do!I've been having too much fun with the apps today and as you can see from these photos I had autumn attire on my mind!

The vintage red angora beret I got back in Indiana for $1.00 and the cost I got thrifting out here for $2.oo,it had a Pendleton feel to it and I do love me a Pendleton!
PhotobucketPhotobucket

And now yes I can take my seat at the circle of iPhone users waxing poetic about the epic amounts of amazing this phone is.Its true.Even BluntCards know the deal.

Strawberry Fields Forever...

You'll excuse the cheese factor that I just kicked up a notch with that title,if you couldn't guess what we did today, yes that's right we went to the strawberry fields so I couldn't resist a song title reference and boo to you if you don't like the Beatles.Today's post I could easily break into 3 posts but I'm not so just fair warning this one is a bit picture heavy...but like you mind!Really isn't that the point of blogs is content AND photos?Maybe if I had great writing skills and you were SUPER interested in me rambling on and on about kids, etsy and going to the park then I could get away with no photos but let's admit it,that makes more a rather boring blog.

There are a lot of bad things to be addicted to in this world so I guess I am fortunate that my daughter is a fruit junkie. She has been out of strawberries for 3 days and I swear to the gods its like that kid needs the sugar from strawberries to be cute and sweet and nice. The first 1/2 of our trip she was a bit of a pill but I'm not kidding after we got her some strawberries and she ate a few she was back to her normal soft voiced sweet little self!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I'm trying to teach my daughter the concept of money. She for being only 3 is an expensive habit and likes to go,see and do.Which is more than fine but not always in the budget. We do our fair share of mostly free or very cheap fun things but I want her to be able to understand that when I tell her "no" its not me just being a big meanie but just the reality of life.So my mom gave her a few bucks and let her pay for the strawberries.
And yes she does have pink cowgirl boots, its ok I am jealous of them too.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Now as far as thrifting went today...GAH!My poor mom I had her drive down to Encinita's for nothing. One of the worst thrift stores ever.We stopped by an estate warehouse here in town which I've always loved but haven't been in for many years. They had gotten rid of their clothes room so I was bummed about that.As far as fun things for my etsy shop it was a bust on that end.Their prices are good but not for resale.Personal shopping wise though they're great!Sadly I didn't have the funds for personal shopping though so I figured I'd snap some of the things I saw that I did like.

Photobucket

Um,I'd like this coffee table please!
Photobucket

This desk did make me squeal I won't lie.
Photobucket

Its pink!It would never fly in my house but for f***(<--look ma I censored it so you can't be too upset I do watch my mouth online, promise) sake its pink! Photobucket

Apparently there isn't much of a market for giant cows because this lady has been in front of the store since as long as I can remember...or maybe she's just not for sale.If she was mine I wouldn't sell her that is for sure.
Photobucket

Wait, did I say I didn't have the funds for personal shopping?Because that was a lie.I did treat myself to this hat because it was only $4.00 and despite husbands begging to differ a gal can never have too many hats.
Photobucket

Photobucket

And the icing on the cake today and if you're not a mom you probably don't care sorry but my mom treated me to a new diaper bag!I loved my old one but it was torn and looking shabby. No offense to moms that have one but I knew from the moment I got pregnant with my daughter that I was NOT going to carry a Winnie the Pooh diaper bag.You want a onesie kiddo with Winnie the Pooh that's fine but I freaking hate, loathe, despise those cutesie little baby themed diaper bags.Check it out retail world:I'm the one that has to carry this thing NOT my baby so I don't want Precious Moments are any of that jazz,ya dig?!Without further ranting here is my new diaper bag. Thanks Mom!
